Hey guys found a 454 in my area that came out of a 87burb. Probably going to see it on Sat/Sun. Guy says it needs to be rebuilt, I know there are a lot of variables but guessing there is nothing "major" wrong about how much on avg to rebuild a 454? Is there anything I should look for when I goto see it and how would I identify it as a 454. Any help would be great, was looking into a 350 but dont want to pass up a 454.

I think Vile can answer just about any 454 question you could come up with..
-
You need the engine number off the block to verify that it is a 454.
You looking at about $2000 if you need all new parts.
-
If it's truly an 87 big block then it's a 454. Nothing to get too excited over. The heads will be junk, the intake will be junk. What kind of powerhouse are you planning on building out of it?
-
Really looking to basically build a budget street truck, without cutting an corners. Was looking into a 350 but since I haven't bought anything for it and came across this 454 I was thinking about doing it. Not looking to build a drag truck or anything, it may see track but very rarely. Maybe in the ball park figure of 300-400hp. Have a Tubro400 now that came with truck but want to look into T56.

If you build that lower end and get some good heads, intake and the rest of the impliments you can easily build 500+ HP

Do you think 300 for a 454 block is good price? Will inspect for damage
-
just the block?
-
with all internals and stock heads.
-
If it's a good core yes
-
ditto,
just the block no.
