Never had it happen on my truck, but one of my bikes (harley) it happened and I had to go to a locksmith and he reset the tumblers with a special tool for me and never came out again.

You are going to have to go into the steering column to fix it.

Whatever holds the key cylinder into the column is missing or broken. Anybody know of a website that has exploded views of GM steering columns ??

I have the steps down to the tilt section in the tech section of the forum.

Bet its cheaper to replace than fix.  Autozone's online repair guide helped me do mine this spring.
