Title: Junkyard finds - post yours
Post by: Gearhead1 on September 16, 2010, 11:36:45 am
I found this treasure last week - Too bad the wrecking yard "can't sell a complete vehicle once it enters the yard"

Pre '80 Camper Special with 454...100% complete and restorable

i'm surprised the wrecking yard cannot sell the whole vehicle.  the salvage yard near me has a fenced area where they sell whole vehicles they acquire one way or the other.   Even if they don't have the title (which they should), one can be easily obtained.

Here's mine sitting in the junk yard the day i picked it up. 100% complete and originial untouched since new other than routine maintenance, no scratches ding or dents, 53,000 miles and one previous owner, just ran and drove poorly due to the carb and loose steering. It now hides safely in my garage after handing over $800.

Junkyards tend to make more money off parts/scrap then whole vehicles.  I bet if you wanted it bad enough you can find someone there who has authority to sell whole vehicles, just depends on how much you are willing to spend.....

This is fixable....a couple of fenders, front clip-- a little bondo here and there.  i bet you could get a good deal on that.

You may need to tug on the frame just a little bit, though ;)

Yeah definitely a fatal, look at the drivers side of the cab, crushed.

I remember working at a junkyard and this one guy named bubba would go threw Dover flip off the cops on a drag strip bike then would just dust them all fun and games till he got cut off kind of weird how the bike was hurt not bad but he wasn’t so lucky. The day we got the bike in people were all ready calling before the truck showed up with it some people are just like vultures ready to clean up after the deep before they are even put in the ground. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy he met his end before he made someone else meet theirs’

I know a guy that wrecked his 82 K20 6' lift, and 36's just as bad as both those trucks and walked away with only minor cuts, and bruises. He rolled it first before he hit a huge maple tree, then rolled it onto its roof again. He was tossed over head first into the passengers side floor area. If not he would have been done for. The steering wheel was slightly out through the back window. When they rolled it back onto three wheels the motor, and part of the bell housing stayed on the ground. Half the front axle was still jambed into the tree.

not a good ad for seatbelts, huh?

That last set of pics is interesting...either the truck was going about 265 mph or it fell down a cliff and hit with speed and all its weight in freefall-- crushed to cause that much damage.

I agree about the last set of photos...looks like the truck took a huge impact close to the ground. Maybe it was airborne and hit something immovable or maybe a high speed collision with a low level concrete abutment or tree stump.

It is amazing what some people walk away from. I have a friend who wrecked his 2wd several years ago. He left the road airborn and hit a tree. Upon impact it knocked the cab and front clip off the frame. The only thing left on the frame was the motor, trans, and the bed. He was transported to the hospital but was released a few days later with no major injuries.  I tell him all the time that God has a plan for him.

An old friend had a vw bug and one day he was heading into town to the parts store. It had just rained lightly. He approached a left hand 90* curve and downshifted. The back end swung wide and the entered the oncoming lane, getting t boned. The front of the car at the firewall opened up like it was on a door hinge and the front passenger seat ended up in the back. He got flown away and later released from the hospital with ONLY a dislocated finger.

The part that really scares me is I was supposed to go with him to the parts store, but I had been arguing with my girlfriend so I decided to go take care of that. I would be dead if it wasnt for me arguing with her.

Yup if my buddy had been wearing a seat belt he would not be here today. They estimate he was doing around 100 MPH. He or his brother have never said but its kinda speculated that they were racing each other.

Looks like they hit a stump.

or... there was so much rust that there was no support to begin with. That thing has the signs.

That last truck pictured is awesomely crushed. I'm curious what could have caused that but I'd have to agree that a very solid, immovable object like an abutment or mountain side caused that, or falling off a cliff. Train perhaps? A huge amount of force is what that is. Wow.
