As some of you no im building a long bed and i just got done putting the trans and trasfer case in and the drive lines i have are a 2 piece drive line and there is no spot for the carrer bearing? now is the a 1 piece drive line for a long bed?
-
The bearing bolts to a cross member
-
Hmm, my burb, similar to a long bed, has no carrier bearing. It uses a 1pc drive shaft for the rear. Sure you have the right shaft?
-
Out of the several trucks/parts trucks that myself and my friends have, which are mostly long bed 4x4's, the only one in the whole bunch that has a 2-piece with carrier bearing is an 84 long bed 2-wheeler.
-
all the long beds I am familiar with have a one-piece driveshaft. Just get one of those driveshafts from salvage or have one made up.

iv hav about 8 parts truck out in my feld and they all have 2 piece drive lines. put this one 88 chevy truck it has a carbon fiber lookin one

So that's where all the 2-piece ones went, lol.
I don't know if there is really an advantage to having the 2-piece one in there or not. If you are going to have to modify or buy parts to make it go anyway, I personally would invest the money in a 1-piece made to fit. If you have some place around that can do the work, all they will need is both yokes and the overall center of cap to center of cap dimension. Around here it runs $130 - $150.
-
try $500 i went in to a drive line shop and thats what they told me
-
:oThat's crazy.
Where are you located? Measure it, chop the yokes off and send it to Thurlow's Welding in Fargo, ND. That $130-$150 quote is only from a few weeks ago when I thought I was going to have to have mine lengthened or shortened because I just swapped to an auto trans.

im burson ca. the town is really small so i have to go to a place in lodi ca
-
If you are going to Lodi, Cal. you might as well go the extra 20 min to Sac., there are all kinds of drive shafts shops here. And a ton of pick-n-pull type places to look over.
-
I say since you have the right two piece use it bolt in the carrier to the cross member and be done with it and save 150 or so. Me and a bud changed transmissions in my 86 350t long to a 350t short tail dive shaft was about 4-6 inches to short. So found a two piece shaft the same length as my one piece it was still to short so we put a spacer between the carrier and cross member a piece of 4 or 6 inch channel and fixed my problem. It held up even after blowing out the rear
-
2 piece shafts were typically stronger.
-
how long is your guys drive lines? i think mines a werid size?
-
What transmission you have
