Although I get jealous of all of the clean trucks you guys in the dry climates can score on, here in New England we get plenty of cheap plow trucks.
I grabbed this 1 yesterday off Craigslist for $1000. It's an 87 K30 (87's are still K30's in my mind, cant get used to the V/R series). It runs strong with all of the good stuff. 454 TBI, turbo 400-205 set up, and the DANA 60. It runs and drives but I towed it home because it was 50 miles away, figured why take a chance.
The owner gave me all of his spare Chevy stuff including a set of aluminum slots with junk 33's, 8' plow, a nose off of his 74 (not mint but real good) rebuilt steering box, mint tailgate, new plow lights, etc. He was basically getting out of the 73-87 hobby because he was moving.
This was a typical New England truck but at somepoint the owner but on a rust free bed along with some doors from a 74 (the door panels take you back in time).
I've mentioned it before on this forum that for guys looking for Dana 60's, old plow trucks are the way to go.
Just thought I'd share.

Nice find, and as long as you have room, you can't have too many spare parts laying around. That's like buying the dana 60 and getting the rest for free.

That is a very nice find, if nothing else if you took your time and sold the parts you would come out 5 or 6 times better.

Thinking of putting a 454 in my 81 stepside to replace the blown SB 400.
I have another strong running 454 also from an 87 K30.
Both of these motors run strong, I gave them the industrial road test behind my shop. You know, punch it from a dead stop on a empty road and see if it smokes the tires. Both motors passed no problem.
I'll probably go with a 4 barrel to replace the TBI on these motors. Like I said, they both run great. I figure I'll do a compression test, detail the motors, add new gaskets/timing chain and maybe mild cam.
I know these aren't 500HP big blocks, but as long as the performance is equivalent or better than the SB 400 TPI motor it will be replacing, I will be happy.
I was following a recent thread about the cost of rebuilding a 454 but I don't think these call for a rebuild.
I figure for $1000 I will have a spare big block and you can never have to many aluminum slots.

Thanks, thats how I found the truck. I typed aluminum slotted rims on the Craigslist search block feature and this is 1 of the ads that came up.
