Title: Duplicolor "Paint Shop"
Post by: Engineer on September 18, 2010, 12:43:17 pm
Has anyone used this?

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/psFinishSystem/ (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/psFinishSystem/)

It looks pretty straight forward, and simple for a DIYer.

for the price you can buy a real auto paint like limco single stage. You pay $20 or more for a quart and it'd take that much if not more to do a vehicle when you can buy a gallon of limco single stage for less then a hundred and a gallon is four quarts, plus you can add the reducer and hardner and still be cheap and have a nice paint job. not to mention I hear you have to really cut and buff it to make it shine or you have to clear coat it then buff it.

My buddy and I painted the front half of my truck with it one week. I'm no body man but I'm pleased with the results

I am not a painter but the primer seems to thin
I can spray with a rattle can and get better results
No I did not thin it just left the can upside down over night and then a small paddle mixer before I strained it and it seems like water btw I already bought the paint so I will see how that is soon

I've messed with lacquer paint a little.  Its a ton of work, but you can make a perfect shine with enough wet sanding and buffing.  Unfortunately that shine will be very short lived.  Lacquer does not hold up without constant attention.  I would take that stuff back.  For the same money and half the work you can do a single stage urethane that will last for years.

agreedm and in order to get that perfect shine you're gonna need plenty of product or mil thickness to sand and buff to perfections. I use acrylic enamel and it's single stage and shines great and lasts a very long time.

What about Dupont Nason?

Has anyone used it?

Dupont makes both of those products.  Nason is very popular for low budget repairs and refinishing, so I assume its not bad.  I've talked to some that don't like the way it sprays, though.  I don't personally know either way.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I have made up my mind.....

DuPont Centari on the frame/axles/drivetrain.

DuPont Nason for the sheet metal.

The colors that I want to use on my truck are serviced by these paint brands, so DuPont wins the day.

I would use centair on the body, I've used it, my old man swears by it, it works great, holds up great, looks great, it's just great stuff.
