Title: Carb on a 94 Suburban
Post by: markdilljr on September 24, 2010, 12:09:54 am
I know this isnt the right year for this website but maybe someone might know, a friend of mine just bought a 1994 Suburban and it has a carb. The guy said this was the last year they had them before they switched to TBI, I thought they switched over earlier. Does anyone know if this truck should have a carb or TBI, thank you.

I'm pretty sure that by 87 GM quit using carb's, but by 94 they were definitely done with them. By 94 most of the TBI's were being replaced already.

my 91 sub V2500 3/4 ton 4x4 5.7 4l80e trans has TBI.  In 87 they began TBI.  I have heard though, certain heavy duty trucks kept carbs for a few more years (?) not sure on that though.

You will have to check it out yourself to be sure.
Not to second guess your friend but it's not unheard of to hear people call the TBI unit a 2 barrel carb.
As long as that burb is a gas job it would have come from the factory with a TBI on it. There is always the chance someone played around with it an put on a carb.

Carbs were availible on pickups up to 1991 on the OLD R/V bodystyle (ours) non of the 88-up trucks ever had a Carb from the factory.

Like said above 94 has to have a TBI that looks kind of like a carb or "spider injector" CPI
