So can anyone tell me the average mpg for a 86 chevy silverado c20?
I am thinking about buying one, but I want to make sure I can handle the weekly gas expenses.
Thanks I would really appreciate it. ;D

Lmao if gas is a worry don't buy the truck but it has to deal with you and the gearing of the truck my 3/4 with 38s gets about 8 while my 1/2 ton got about 13 with the same motor stock tires probably different ratio tho. But there's some people on here that get 20

1) i'm thinking maybe 16 if you're lucky, probably lower though; This depends on the engine, gearing, as Irish pointed out, and weight.
2) It's funny because they discussed this very topic on the TV show Homicide; i feel that with the right compression----9.5/1 to 10/1, higher gears 2.41--3.08, and a good free flowing exhaust system, any fullsize pickup 1/2 OR 3/4 could probably get 20 mpg.
3) As far as handling the weekly expenses: If i were to drive everyday, then a full tank usually lasts me about 5 days/260 miles. Gas at the price it's presently at is, as you can see $41 to fillup.
However, why not try to save on gas itself before doing anything to the truck? For instance the $41.27 is actually $38.87 for me because i have an ExxonMobol credit card which has a .15 per gallon rebate. i think i'm going to start another thread dealing with saving on gas itself.

Best = 17mpg
normal about 12-13 depending on the gearing.

I get about 14-16 in my 78. it has a 350, th400 and 3.73 gears with 32" tires. It weighs about 5000lbs. It's bone stock except for an Edelbrock 600cfm carb. A light foot is key.

Well it could have at least 3 different motors and at least 3 different rear gear ratios. The 6.2 diesel gets 15mpg driving around every day, while the 350 gets around 12mpg, and the 454 gets around 7mpg driving around every day. These trucks do get bad mileage.
