Hey All,
Here are a couple of pictures of my 1985 Chevy C10 Long Bed project. So far i have removed the running boards, shaved the rain gutters, lowered 5/5 with spindles, springs and a flip kit, changed out the wheels, removed all of the factory moldings and installed a roll pan. I am going to be shaving the stake pockets and am debating on molding the roll pan.
Here is a pic when i first got it.

Here are some recent pics. I have some hellish lean. There is a little over an inch difference from side to side. Everything in the rear suspension lines up ok. I'm guessing that it's the leaf springs.

I am going to be replacing the tired old 305 with a 4 bolt main 350 from a Suburban. Rebuilding the 350 is going to be my winter project.

The truck looks good. Keep at it
-
Nice progress. Check your front coils to see if they are seated properly.
-
Made some progress...
I shaved the stake pockets and welded in a rear lower fender on the truck bed. It is also sprayed with urethane primer.

Here is a before after shot of the disaster that was cleaned up in the engine bay. After 4 gallons of purple power, 3 wire wheels and multiple cans of eastwood's products it cleaned up pretty good.

Decided against rebuilding the 350 block that i picked up. Jegs had such a good deal on a crate engine it didn't make sense to spend all of the money in machine work and new parts... Dropped it in this past weekend.
Starting to do some body work on the cab and reinstalling everything in the engine bay. Kicking myself for not labeling the 30 feet of vacuum lines that i removed. Good thing there is still a diagram.

you dont need 3/4s of the vacuum line anyway
-
I really like the new wheels.
-
I like the over all stance of the truck, and the wheels are a nice addition. Keep up the great job.
-
its comin together nice, the black wheels are cool.
-
Those look like a soft 8 cragar, but larger diameter. I like it!
-
Yes they are the cragars. I wanted to go old school but needed something bigger due to the drop spindles. They are 17x8. They were dirt cheap as well.
-
that looks nice. 8)
-
i am thinking 17x8 soft 8s for mine too. what tire size is that? and backspacing?
-
I will have to check. I'd reccomend going larger in the back. I believe they make a 17x10 also. I wasn't happy with the view from the back. Need a fatter tire...
-
I love the way those soft8's look.
-
awesome project man. looks sweet. love the stance and the wheels are great choice.
-
First start up with the new 350 Crate Engine. It's hardly staying running. I have to get the carburetor tuned and set the timing. Getting closer to be drive-able!!

awesome congrats man...what a great feeling that is

very nice progress, I welded in my roll pan and like it, also i found some licence plate bolts that have led lights in them for a licence plate light works good.
-
got a night pic of the plate lights?

What is the best way to weld the sides of the roll pan to the rear fender? The gap is too big so I'm guessing i'll have to cut some thin sheet metal strips. Sorry I'm a newb welder.
-
That gap can be welded just take your time, I also welded across the top of my pan in the bolt holes. It can be removed and replaced like any patch panel when you are done
Beastie
I tried a night pic but I'm no photographer and either the camera flash lights up the plate or just isn't an accurate photo but IMO it lights it up well and looks good, you'll get a little shadow from the plate numbers since the lights are mounted so close. It is a differant look; looks blue but I also have a blue plate.

Heres a photo of the pan welded and painted.

Nice truck! Are those stock mirrors? Those taillights look sexy with the black paint.
-
I'm also diggin' the taillights. Are those smoked euros? Big money?
-
I got the lights from an ebay guy. Don't remember which one though.
I looked long and hard for an aftermarket light that wasn't too crazy and red not black or clear.
They are actually just a touch darker than a factory red color and around 50-60 for a set.
best part is; they sent me two sets and only charged me for one.
-
Just a quick update... I finished bodywork and primed the cab of the truck. I also wrapped the dash in new vinyl. It got tough stretching it around the instrument cluster part of the dash. Looks good overall. I still have to cut out the vents and speaker areas.

looking good
-
What shocks are you running up front? I have the same set up but don't know if the stock shocks will bottom out or not. Looks good, keep up the good work... 8)

I went with calmax shocks from DJM. They fit well and appear to have plenty of travel. I haven't drove the truck anywhere yet so I can't give a review.

So far you have done a great job, I bet you can not wait to drive it.

Thanks man! I am getting anxious. I was debating on driving it in primer for a while but was afraid that I'd never paint it afterwards. It makes more sense I guess to paint it now while it's disassembled...
-
My thought is to cut everything in before assembly but wait to do the outside in one shot. That way the paint more even and less chance of scratching something while putting it together.
