Title: Gas tanks for lowered truck???
Post by: y2k_harley on October 08, 2010, 08:04:35 am
I have an 86 C-10 short box that is lowered 5" and 7".  I am concerned with the clearance under the dual side mount tanks.  I was wondering if anyone had ideas other than a fuel cell in the box.

I drove one 5/7 for years, there is nothing to be concerned about regarding the tanks.  I did move mine to the back for better weight transfer.  http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/blazertank.html

Hey capt i got a question for you regarding the the tank mount.

What did you use as a fuel door and do you have any recent pics of it, im not completly satified with the fuel cell in between my box and looking to do the switch.

Thanks Doug

Guys, Here is a few pics of my setup. I used an aluminum 20gal cell from Summit, moved the rear crossmember back & the spare tire holder foreward as the front strap hanger. The 2nd brace from the rear on the bed floor needed moved for the filler access (which was going to need clearancing anyway for the rear spring hanger/shackle). An early S-10 fuel door & surrounding "pocket" was put in the bedfloor to fill it. The only thing to keep in mind is my body has a 2" angled (front to back) bodydrop...so the cell would stick out the bottom a little bit on a stock truck. Maybe this could help, it's some work, but the outcome works well.  Lorne

If you look closely under the license plate you can barely see the sump...plenty of ground clearance!
