Title: Issue with filling truck with fuel
Post by: turbo1 on October 10, 2010, 02:11:21 am
My 1981 1/2 ton 2wd with a single driver side mounted tank has what i feel is a strange problem while fueling her up. When fueling at any gas station i have to hold the nozzel upside down in order to pump gas into the tank. If i try filling her up while holding the gas nozzel in the normal manner it kicks off the nozzel fuel flow ( just like when your tank is full) and I cannot pump fuel. Not the original owner and has done this since I bought it. I did check the filler tube assembly for a kink but it looks okay. Any Ideas guys ??

Might be something wrong with your vent. I sometimes have to hold the skirt back on the nozzle and just put the tip in.

i know with mine i have to back the nozzle out a couple inches or it will kick off and some times the fuel pump line itself will be twisted a turn and it causes to much back pressure and it will kick the pump off till you twist the line one way or another

Over the years I have had several Chevy's that I had to put the filler upside down. I never figured it out.

This is a post on this, check your Vent hose and check for kinks in the filler line.
You may also be trying to cram to much nozzle in.

Dont hold the trigger all the way either. Throw it on the first notch of the trigger lock and go get me a beer. clean the winshield.

I have to pull the nozzle out a few inches or it kicks off the pump also.

There's another thread on this.

Check to make sure the fill vent isn't plugged and make sure your tank vent is not just capped or plugged. The fuel tank needs to be vented or it will trip the pump nozzle and spew on your bedside.
