have 2 questions. have a black wire that clips into the top of ash tray housing. could this be a light? what does it plug in to on the harness? getting ready to install the gage panel in to the dash and i see a spade on the upper right corner that i don't remember unplugging.any idea?

If I understand your question, I think you are talking about the fiberoptic cable. It plugs into the ashtray housing and goes to the back of the gauge cluster, in the upper right hand corner when you are sitting in the truck. That's how my 82 is anyway.

fiberoptic ???

yep that's the fiberoptic cable ,i have it too .

can anyone explain a little more what that cable does...?

It transfers light from your instrument panel through the cable to illuminate the ashtray. If you have it apart shine a flashlight in one end and see what comes out the other.

thanks for your help .
