Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for a few months now and thought I'd introduce myself. This is my truck. It's a 1986 GMC C-2500 with a 454 and a TH400. that I got for $1,000. It's a bit rough, but I'm busy remedying that. I just put a new Edelbrock carb and intake on it and replaced the valve cover gaskets. Next step is to replace the trans pan. Did GM really design it without a drain bolt??? Pretty lame. Any recommendations for an aftermarket pan that won't leak are appreciated.

The truck acquired a co-pilot last week. I'm not a cat person, but this cat is really cool. I just hope it doesn't get caught in the fan or something horrible.

Welcome from Maryland. Maybe the pictures aren’t showing it but she doesn’t look bad at all

I'd like to find a "rough" one like that around me. Looks to be in great shape. Welcome from NW Indiana

Welcome, that truck would be a few grand around here, rough is pretty much no floor pans

Thanks for the welcome. I guess a rust-free truck is a pretty big deal in a lot of places, LOL. "Rough" just means that the truck hasn't had a lot of maintenance in the last few years. It leaks just about every fluid it has, needed a carb, needed a radiator, hoses, lots of seals, wheel balance, tailgate doesn't open, etc. etc. etc. The engine and trans are still strong so I think it's worth it. I've always driven Hondas, so this is a big change for me.

Welcome from Cali as well.

heck the leaks just mean less times you have to change the filters ::)

Welcome to the site!

Welcome from N. CAL. For $1000.00 you got a great deal, enjoy.....

You guys are hardcore here. I've been working on Hondas all my adult life. Honda guys might put an LSD in their transmission, but you guys are cutting frames and swapping bodies, putting in extra fuel tanks, etc. etc. etc. I'm excited to learn from you all.
The truck's name is Chester, by the way. LOL

lsd the drug? lol

Who's your "helper" under the battery?
-
So far, the cat's name is just "kitty." She just showed up one day inside the engine compartment. I think she likes engine compartments because they are relatively protected from coyotes and such. She tried another engine compartment in the shed and got a harrowing ride to town (unharmed thankfully). When we opened the hood, she took off down an alley and we spent the rest of the day trying to find her. She's really sweet and sociable. She'll come right up to you, purring before she even gets there. Like I said, I'm not a cat person, but it's hard not to be won over by this one.
Thanks for the trans pan recommendations. I ended up buying this cheapy on eBay:

With luck, it won't leak too bad.
