Many of you who've been on this site a few years remember me posting my brother's burned Ford pics....

Well, as the ole saying goes, like father, like son. My nephew just had his truck burn up today up under him. It was a 5.3 engine and it started messing up on him and he pulled over and tried to look at it, and it engulfed in flames. It's at my parents house now.

anyone know of any problems with the 5.3 pickups? It's a mystery how/why it started. He's bummed, brand new tires and the like. Insurance will take care of it. He's heading to boot camp soon at Pendleton in a few months, so, he doesn't really need his truck anyway now but he sure took care of it, being a typical 19 year old. Oh well, that's the way it goes. I just wonder if there has been a pattern on these engines or trucks.

I have heard of a problem with the (heater) blower motor harness.

I'm sure the fire insurance investigator will find the cause. I've never seen one just burst into flames but you should buy it and snag the powertrain if it is salvageable.

there's a little more to the story, when the truck wasn't running correctly and he pulled over, a passerby told him that flames were coming from underneath the truck. He called 911 and this is out in the country where there is a local volunteer fire dept, but, he didn't pay his $75 fee for putting out fires....
no, wrong story, the volunteer fire dept was out on another call and couldn't respond, so they called the next closest fire dept another 10 miles away or so and needless to say, it took them a while to get there and by that time, it was simply too late.
Fire investigator and insurance man will be by tomorrow to take a look at it. My nephew has gap insurance, which covers any gap in difference between the "book value" and will at least make it so it will cover what is still owed, if that is more than the value--or something like that. I never had a car payment so I can't elaborate--I never had anything newer than 15 yrs old, and my 19 yr old nephew has nearly a brand new truck...go figure.

Glad he is ok.
He will be loving MCRD SD in the winter. Crucible should be fun, nice, cold, and wet. I went to boot camp same place, same time of year. It was great.
