Im new to the forum, just wanted to share my truck. It started out as a two wheel drive 85 c10 that was quite rusty when my aunt and uncle from ny gave me it as my first truck. It was fully loaded and had the black and white paint scheme you see in this truck from the factory, which i fell in love with. it was a 305 th350 truck with pw, pl, ac, cruise, tilt, carpeted floors, raleye wheels, dual tanks. I brought it home, replaced the cab corners and rockers, fuel lines, brakes, shocks, painted the frame, tuned it up, re painted the truck and drove it as my first truck to high school...all of three weeks, before being t boned with it. it bent the frame. I couldnt just give up on it though, so saved up and bought a rusted out 73 suburban k20 with a 350, th400, np205, dana 44, corporal 14 bolt for $300; an 84 k10 305 4 speed rust bucket with high mileage for $200; an 87 c 10 350 4 speed for $500; and a totalled rust free 82 k30 that had hit a telephone pole at 45 head on,and parted them completely out except the 87. Out of these, my truck was born using the 84 frame sandblasted and painted, a 4 inch lift, the suburban drive train, the perfect 82 cab, the original 85 nose, interior, bed, and passenger door, and a new drivers door and bedside, plus many other little parts. for the engine, i planned on using the 350, till an uncle of mine saw the 87 c10 i had picked up and decided he wanted to buy it. I told him i would trade him. He had a freshly worked over 327 pushing 400 hp built for his 69 camaro and then found a 427, so planned to not use it. I traded him the 87 for the 327, which runs amazing and is a blast in this truck; it has a very nice lopey cam, its balanced and blue printed, roller rockers, all kinds of good stuff. The truck now has a full stereo system including two 12 inch subs, a pioneer head unit, 8 speakers, dual tanks, dual flowmaster exhaust system custom bent for the truck, a front hitch built under the bumper for my winch to slide into, 33" durango mud tires, the aluminum wheels i picked up for 200 dollars at a yard sale, flashers in each of the parking lights, a sunroof, as well as several other fun things. I drove it through my senior year of high school and now that im in college, it does firewood during the winter, goes to car shows and tows my jeep for mudbogs in the summer, and is overall just a fun toy that i love driving. All work done to it was done by me or my father with help from friends at times, from the mechanics to the body work to the spraying of the paint and finishing details, so I am very proud of what i have. Last year it got me a third place at the local truck show, and it was used to haul firewood that same day for a delivery, so its not just a toy, it earns its keep too. I hope you enjoy my pics, I have many more i would love to share. this forum seems great, and i just picked up a 79 short bed step side c10 project so i will be making use of these resources.

Sweet Truck!
-
Cool!!!!
-
love the car show pic with a load of firewood in the back ;D
-
Thats pretty retro with a sun visor and slot mags......cool truck
-
Thanks for the compliments. As for the wood in the back, it is frequently driven INTO the woods to do firewood, it sees its fair share of mud, water, snow, salt and abuse so it isnt a perfect truck. Im hoping to do a fresh paint job this coming summer to take care of the nicks and scratches that come with using it as much as I do. It was daily driven for quite awhile, did truck pulls, played in the mud, and worked dragging trees out of the woods, delivering wood, and hauling around my jeep and tractors. When I went away to college, i purchased a 2000 silverado with a 4.3 and a five speed for fuel mileage, as i was only getting about 7 with this truck at the time (lead foot i guess :) ). And last year, I began commuting to another college, about 120 miles round trip. So thats where the little 4 cylinder 5 speed fiero came into the picture (36-37 mpg!!!) which of course got the paint scheme to match the old truck.
Quick question, was this a common paint scheme on these trucks? It came from that original 85 c10, and was a factory paint scheme. I personally LOVE the look of it, but I'm a little biased. I have seen a couple others, usually a tan and red scheme done in the same style. Anyone have any details on how common this was, or the paint package it was? im very curious
Also, the mags and visor fit exactly what i was going for with the truck. Im 22 years old and grew up around a 79 k20 that was originally owned by my father then by my uncle. The truck had been rebuilt top to bottom at least 3 or 4 times, mechanically and the body. It plowed snow, did truck pulls, hauled firewood, and was daily driven untill eventually the rust just caught up to it beyond helping it and he had to give up on it. It was a huge part of my life growing up, and it had a four inch lift, aluminum slots and a visor. I loved the simple clean look of it without being overdone, and knew exactly what i wanted to do with this truck as soon as I decided to build it.

That custom paint isn't that common in comparison to the solid top or solid center.
-
I like the black and white two tone. my uncle had one painted like that but it was brown and tan.. i like the white n black much better.
-
Beautiful truck, those mags are killer! Lift height and tire size are identical to the look I'm going for.
-
Thanks heartkill. Its a simple rough country lift, wasnt very expensive. four inch lift, so changed the springs in the front and put thier lift block in the rear. rear leaf springs are original 84 half ton ones with over 200,000 miles on them at this point (that truck had 191,000 when i stripped it to the frame). This lift leveled the front and the back, and i like a little more of a rake so i installed an add a leaf to give it its current height. It also has a set of bolt on one ton overloads that i put on for the truck pull and just never took back off; without the overloads it actually rides VERY nice for a leaf sprung truck. With them its a little more bouncy, but handles loads pretty nice.

The picture of your truck on the dirt mound with the american flag in the background=4x4 longbed calendar page.
-
Nice. Those are one of my all time favorite wheels too. I had similar ones on my 84 K5 with the inside spokes painted to match the truck.

Just got some more pictures I had and wanted to share;
A day of doing wood with a friend and uncle (the white chevy is my uncles "replacement" for his old 78 that inspired me to build mine, and everytime he rides in mine he wants to put his old one back together.

Here it the truck pulling my trailer with my mud bog jeep, 83 cj7 with a sbc and tractor treads. Disregard the date, it was wrong on the camera, this was 2009 i believe

you guys liked the one on the rocks, so here is another angle

Another one from the car show with the wood in the back. Sold and delivered this load of wood and then went and did another after the show, and left before the show was over, only to get a package with a trophy in it a week later for the show! made my day!

(http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss181/mtjd252009/jackandjill.jpg)And in high school, I had two friends in bikini tops and daisy duke shorts who wanted to lay on the hood. I couldnt say no. It resulted in a very dented hood, but, WORTH IT. And as you can see in later pictures it has a cowl hood now anyway as of last year. Well, hope you enjoy, there are many more. As soon as i get pics of my new purchase, the 85 c10 short bed step side, ill get those posted as well.

Finally got around to uploading the recent purchase pictures. The truck is a 79 step side with an 85 cab and nose. I bought it with no engine or trans installed, but it is very clean underneath and no body rot at all. It has a 12 bolt 4.11 posi rear, and came with two 454 blocks, both 78's, one a bare block the other in pieces but complete. Also got a spare set of doors, brand new 79 front fenders never installed, another set of wheels, another steering column, brand new bb headers and freshly bent exaust, a bb intake, 750 holley carb, new radiator, and it has a brand new cowl induction hood on it that has yet to be bolted on. I think 800 was an ok deal, what do you guys think?! it has yet to migrate off of the trailer. the plan is a 350 with a five speed for now, and eventually to install the 327 from the white and black truck into the stepside and a 454 into the white and black truck. I am debating selling both of these engines possibly to pay for the cost of the truck. Both are passenger car blocks. The black rims are what will go on it eventually, they were a set of fifteen by ten american racing wheels I have had since my first truck was wrecked. Here are some pics. Enjoy

Looks like a good score! (except for the visor :P)
-
Thanks....yeah, i think the visor needs some attention!!! haha it was just one i had laying around, i was holding it up to see if i prefered visor or no visor. to be determined
-
No Visor!
What color will it end up?
-
im currently thinking no visor as well. Im not positive on the color, i have always wanted a short bed but originally was thinking a fleetside. But couldnt pass this one up. I would like to tie the color in with my other truck in some way, but still thinking on that one. for now its gonna stay its current shade of rattle can black, but im playing with the white/ black/ red pistripe thats on the other truck and seeing what would work here. We will see! All black is nice but its so much maintenence to keep nice. My 57 chevy is corvette yellow....that crossed my mind, but im just not feeling it. any suggestions? Im willing to play around with ideas, paint will be a little while into the future. Engine and trans first! :)

Well, been working on the k20....out with the old.... 64 chevelle 327...
and in with the newly built 454. Should be a bit of a difference I think! 77 454, oval ports, some grinding done on heads, valve job, lunati voodoo cam 60203, all new bearings/seals, kieth black pistons, comp push rods and aluminum roller rockers. Its a mild build mostly but should be fun none the less, the guy who did the head work said figure about 375 horse 450 lb ft torque, I can live with that. also, decided to make her dump.

a scissor and pump i picked up at a swap meet, and build some rails and pivots. Should help for firewood and scrap. Enjoy
-
Your truck is holding up good. Still looks nice. I like the dump bed, I could use one of those.
-
That 327 looks small next to the 454. I am with Thirsty, any man could use a dump bed, even if he never uses it, he could still say he has one. ;D
-
Thanks thirsty, its getting a little rough around the edges, have some rust to deal with on fenders, doors, bedsides, and one cab corner. Found two perfect doors, now just searching for fenders and bedsides...not easy to find in jersey area with no rust, and I'm a poor student, so will wait for the right deal. Its still presentable, but hoping to get some rust repair underway soon before it gets ugly. Bake, yeah, it was amazing seeing the difference in size side by side, I had built several small blocks, this was my first big block that I built, and the weight and size is a big difference! The dump will be very useful, and i ALWAYS wanted one.....not only is it useful, but...JUST because :)
