Hey all,
As I read through the posts I see the new guys/gals to the forum are playing with trucks '80+ and not so many '73-'79.
I just wondered if this was by choice as they preferred the quad light set up etc or are the '73-'79 getting harder to find over there?

Good question. I personally like square body 73-80, The large headlight bezels on the 79-80 look too "Truckster" to me and the 1980 square headlight looks like a Dodge. So that leaves the 73-78 models as my favorite. And, yes, they are harder to find in good shape.

I would have to agree, i like all the chevy classic chevy body sytles up to the last year of 1998! But i couldn't find a 73-79 chevy. They are just not around where i live. Since cash for clunkers its starting to get hard in finding the 82-87 chevy also... mostly 85-91 square nose trucks.

Bitzer, I think these trucks pick the owner ;).
My 82 has been in our family since I was about 10, and to me it pretty much set the standard for what a truck should be. I took my first driver's test with it and now I drive it to work every day. There's a 73 C10 and a 76 K5 that we put out to pasture that I would like to get going someday too. But, like mentioned before, alot of those trucks have seen an extra decade of rust and abuse.

I personally like the round headlights with 73-78 headlight treatment. I swapped the headlight trim off a 78 GMC parts truck I own onto my 79. The big trim on the 79-80 kid of looks like a Dodge to me. I think Grim has a point too. Mine was yelling at me from a car dealer down the street from my office. It was kinda beat up and sort of sad looking overall but when I saw it and I was like a kid with a new puppy.

I prefer the round headlights too. Found a 74 C10 here in good shape for $2K and jumped on it. All it really had wrong was an exhaust leak which was fixed with a new gasket.

that's funny how people see thing's.i liked the 79 for that fact.it's different then the other year's that are hard to distinguish.plus the bezel trim adds a little bling.everybodies different. :)

I like the rounds light trucks better. I had an 87 once but i bought it because it was in such great shape and a great price i couldnt pass up, and it was at a time i didnt have a truck. I'd always get a 77 or 78 model if I can find one.

I don't know why, but around Louisville, Ky I see round headlight chevy's everywhere--several a day. I see the square headlights much less frequently (doesn't make much sense). Could be because I work in a bad part of town and the older trucks are cheap beaters.

i know in my area of southern NH i don't see too many old chevy trucks running around. there are some but not alot. i can kinda go along with the truck picking you. i really liked an done up 86 step side a few years ago, i bought a 90 454ss instead and have wanted an 86 since. i found my 85 and drove by it for a few weeks and could let it sit there anymore. i really like the squared headlights and the stepside bodies of the mid 80's. everyone likes something alittle different. maybe because my father had an 86 dodge pick up when i was a kid (until i wrecked it :'( ). it kinda has a similar nose.

The 73-80's are getting rare in comparisson to the 81-87 body style. I love them all but I too rarely see decent 73-80 bodies even for sale.

hmmmm, maybe my '79 has finally started to increase in value. Well, if I remove the camper shell that is ;D

I prefer the quad setup myself....It's because its nice and symmetrical, and I'm sorta anal about things being "uneven" I however like the older style trucks too but just not for me right now.
