Title: my steering wheel is in my lap???
Post by: project85 on October 30, 2010, 11:17:03 am
in my 85 C-10 there are bucket seats, i doubt they are factory. when i get in the truck the wheel is right on my lap. i have a bench seat which i haven't installed yet but i have a feeling the wheel is still gonna be on my lap. is there any tricks to fix this or do i need a tilt or something? or hopefully i'm wrong abou the bench seat, and the seat will be back far enough to give me some room.

anyone else have a similar problem? how'd you go about fixin it?

thanks

Get a after market smaller wheel from a parts store even with a bench seat you might still come close or hit the wheel. Or/and get a tilt column from the junk yard

now my truck was originally a 3 speed on the column, does that make a difference with how far inot the cab it goes or are all steering wheels / columns the exact same lenght whether automatics or standard on the column?

thanks

Same. Just make sure its about the same year due to wipers lights cruise and steering intermediate shaft can be different I think in 78 is when they changed up you can make it work just use the same the shaft as rhe column came off of
