Today I am going to pick up a few more parts for my 77 Cheyenne. I got new brakes last week, and plan to mock the fronts up. I need to work on the Ride Tech E3 install that I started before Goodguys, but never quite finished. I will try posting pics later.
What did you do to your 73-87 truck today?
-
Dumped some stop leak in the engine and took it for a ride to the airport. Then I took some pictures in front of our DC3. :)
-
Gave it a rest and carved a jack-o-lantern. ;)
Day before yesterday, I changed a slave cylinder (concentric style) on a '99 F150, on my back, in the driveway. >:(
-
Fixing to order some much needed goodies for mine!
-
Topped off the power steering fluid, (leaking steering box) and replaced the oil pressure warning light sender with a guage sender. Yesterday I installed some new gauges with a tach and I am working on the oil and temp senders.
-
Pretty much just standing around swearing at it.
-
recharged the battery not sure if its gonna hold a charge. then fired it up just to hear it run :)
-
With most of the front clip (learning the terms!) painted, I decided to make a start on the rad core panel. The metal worm had eaten away where the inner fenders bolt on. Wizzed down local parts shop and bought some sheet metal.
Cut out all the airflow (rust holes) measured & cut the new metal and fabbed it into shape. Set the welder up, cleaned all the metal and................. ran out of gas >:(
Promptly shut garage door and put the kettle on!

Pretty much just standing around swearing at it.
X2
-
Absolutely nothing....
-
drove it
-
Saturday I went to a buddies house (Subtle71) and helped him lower his truck. He and a a couple friends had already lowered the rear earlier in the week so all that was left was the front.
Today I picked up a few more parts from the guy that I bought all the goodies from last week. Still have more to look at next week, but I may have some 73-80 sheet metal coming available.
This afternoon I finally worked on my E3 system again. I discovered I had a broken ride height sensor, so I pulled them all off to inspect and start fresh.
-
Thought of how much fun I had yesterday now how big is my bill going to be to fix it

-
I sanded the firewall again and touched up a few spots. Welded the patches in the pass door and primed it. I also ordered some door hinges for it.
-
Dropped the motor in yesterday. Went out to dinner, then to a Halloween party. Today I assembled a bunch of it, and fired it. Need to move the dist. I am off a tooth or two. Still need to put the radiator hoses etc. in.
-
I started to wire up the snow plow. I installed dual batteries.
-
Finally got it home ;D
-
I didn't do too much, just replaced and re-aimed my headlights, reinstalled trans pan and filled tranny, bent gas pedal to achieve full throttle, reinstalled diff carrier and filled diff before calling it a day.
-
picked up a chrome shifter from the u-pull it yard. didn't realize they made 'em that way. also looked for a parts truck. planning some upcoming winter work while the truck is off the road.
-
door strikers
-
tried to put headers on it but they hit the frame.....
-
Started it and let it run for a few minuites since I haven't ran it for a few days! About to put on all aluminum welded radiator on with electric fans and a new flexplate!
-
Last weekend I yanked my buckets and the amp rack, stripped it down and am going to install some 'new' circa. 1988 Alpine and Rockford amps.
-
I ordered the brake line kit that I need to convert my front brakes to Wilwoods. As usual the best deal to be had was from Summit.com
(http://www.wilwood.com/Images/BrakeKits/BrakeKit_Photos-Large/kit_140-10815-DR-lg.jpg)
-
brought the truck to work to change plugs, wires, cap. rebled brakes. not too bad a day.
-
Took the truck off the road for the winter :'(
-
Looked at it. Just painted it last weekend. Now I have to put it back together.
-
Took off door panels to sand down and get all the old junky paint off of them from previous owner.
-
Got my shipment from Summit Racing yesterday...:)

I recieved my full coverage floor mat from Chris yesterday. Today I just bought all the stuff I need to start on some body work.
-
Today > Finished repairing rad core panel. Moved stuff out the garage and winched(I'm on a slope) the chassis cab into the once big space. Then put everything back in around the truck. It's tight in there but I'll have to make room to prep and paint.
-
Walked passed it, again, wishing it was back together. Still getting the old paint off the big block that's gonna go in. Got a shipment from Summit. Wished there was more "free" time in the work week. Gonna paint the engine this weekend and get the old engine out. Wondering what tranny to run....mind is running all over the place.....
-
putting on some new pads and rotors on the k30. then gotta fix a leak the trans has. I just put a clutch in it and looks like the transfer case will be coming down again. Stupid gasket. Then gotta check the rear brakes.
-
today, i walked by it when i got home from work and said "why don't i drive this every day?" then realized it's because it's a pain to move all my tools from one truck to the other....
tomorrow i'm hoping to wash and wax it.
-
Pulled the instrument cluster out, pulled dash pad out and removed old, funky AC vents. Redid the band on the front of the dash and got new AC vents ready to go in. Cleaned up instrument cluster. All looking pretty good. Tomorrow, put it all back together then install new dash cap. Things are lookin up.
-
Pulled the passenger side door, un bolted the hood and fender off my donner. Stood around and looked at it thought about weather to go step side or fleet........ ???
-
Step side :o
-
i hooked up my bowtie tail lights and the license plate lights
-
I cleaned my 77 up and took it out Saturday night. Went to a local car cruise and enjoyed the weather. Today I took voltage reading of the ride sensors on my Ride Tech E3 system. Trying to determine why they aren't calibrating.
-
I installed my chrome shifter today. Removed the front seat-hooked up a new amplifier/amp combination just to take out because it didn't sound good, left the seat out deciding weather or not I want to do the rest of the stereo or wait-guess I'll put the seat back in later and order some new shallow subs for behind the seat and build a box at a later time. Took my daughter for walk through the u-pull-it didn't find much today. Though a little bit about how many hours really goes into old vehicles to make them nice.
-
another productive weekend! driver side rear door off and binned, donor door fitted (and totally stripped) it lined up really nicely but the driver door had 1/2 inch of filler in so that's been ground out back to bare metal ready to skim.
New cab mountings fitted drivers side and most of the wires through the bulkhead disconnected.
Think I might have to take a leaf out of Vile's book (but not so drastic!) and cut out the bulkhead and replace with smooth sheet. I know it's more work but it's gotta be quicker than trying to sort out what's there!
-
Was all busy last weekend with the interior. But got derailed Monday when I had a heart attack at work. Just got out of the hospital Friday afternoon. Everything is kind of on hold now.
-
Hope you feel better soon
-
Thanks. It will take some time to get sorted out.
-
Thanks. It will take some time to get sorted out.
Hope you get well soon,
I bought some plug wire looms from Summit.....now i just need the wires
-
Heart attack, oouuffff. Thats not good, hope you get back on track soon, and feel better. Friend of mine had one early this summer, he is just starting to get back to normal. He is three years younger than me. Got him to quite smoking though. I gave him some extra incentive too. I told him go ahead keep smoking, kill yourself, I will take care of your wife when your gone!! ;D
Sat. I fabricated top brackets for the oversize radiator, and the fan shroud on the 86. Yesterday I installed the caliper brackets, rotors, and calipers on my 55.
-
Hope you're feeling better bobcooter.
Should be getting the truck back from the trans shop with a new valve body today.
-
Sunday I went and bought another load of 73-80 parts. I will post pics of my latest haul.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I should have known better. I'm 49 and I ate everything I wanted whenever I wanted and smoked two packs of Marlboros a day along with about a gallon of coffee. Just like I did when I was 20. I guess it was just a matter of time. A real wake up call for sure. Getting lean and mean now and quitting the smokes. I was actually in pretty good shape believe it or not, but I think it was the Marlboros that got me.
If you don't smoke; don't start. If you do smoke you need to try to quit.
-
If you do smoke you need to try to quit.
If I had a nickel for every time I quit smoking....well maybe it'll happen for 2011.
My water pump blew chunks and died yesterday so I'm off to the garage to fire up the nipco heater and see how big of a mess I can make.
-
I started cutting out the passanger floor board and rockers, got the cab corner off and started grinding on the inner cab corner. Getting ready to place an order with Chris on some parts.
Blazin, I hope your ready for a crap load of questions..LOL
Rob.
-
I worked yesterday so I didn't get much done. Today I rewired a Bro-in-laws utility trailer because the dog hate the harness up. After that I spent some time organizing all the parts I bought last week. Later I pulled the seat in my 77 so I could remove the Ride Tech E3 ECU. It is going back to Ride Tech for updates.
-
Finished up adding my Auxiliary trans cooler and engine oil cooler. Also finished plumbing the dual tanks. Putting off the wiring project as long as possible to make the TPI work :)
-
Finished up my Headlight relays and painted both my battery trays.
Started cleaning off the front axle for paint....
-
Tear down, bag and label parts.

-
Woke up to a winter wonderland outside, so I put the scoop shovel in the back, and locked the hubs in.
-
I stripped all the undercoat off the bottom of my bed and painted on the POR 15 and let it set up. Hopefully undercoat goes on tomorrow.
-
Am finishing up replacing the bed end cap and fender wells. Caulked all seams today and painted with POR-15. Waiting for second coat to dry enough to spray them with primer.
-
I just finished putting new rubber fuel lines on my truck down there at the fuel pump. They where swelled up and leaking I believe it was the alky gas that did it lol
-
I pulled the E3 ECU this week. It's going back to Ride Tech for the latest version of software. Hopefully when it comes back I can get the final stage of the install completed.
-
I pulled the motor out of my 85 Blazer 4x4.
-
Finally got my truck back running in the mud changed it over to a 205 due to the adapter plate braking. Only to cause a Carb problem swapped it from a Holley to a edelbrock now is tuning
-
used the height of the bed to increase the height of an extention ladder so I could clean out my gutters!
-
Also shotgun season opened up Saturday haven't been out but have a nice size doe hanging in the shed due to my 94. On my way home from work this morning about 830 I found her laying in the middle of the road not busted up still fresh her ankles down were shattered. Now we got deer and I didn't have to sit in a stand to do it beats tracking one for sure lol. Thank God for trucks
-
I sold my 74 to my brother on Saturday and then flipped my Yukon Sunday morning. Luckily I had my seatbelt on, I spent the day at the hospital and have been hurting all day today.

Wow :o glad to here you are alright
-
Hey Slammed, I think you slammed that one pretty good. The object of driving is to keep all wheels on the ground--just a piece of free advice for ya.
glad you're ok. Soreness will subside in a few days.
My nephew had to slam on brakes the other day to avoid hitting the car in front of him...no problem, successful. then, WHAM!! He got hit from behind, by someone who didn't even put their brakes on, doing 55 mph, according to the person behind that person.
It slammed my nephews chevy truck so hard, the back of his head hit back cab window and shattered it. Had a concussion. It rammed his truck off the road and into a tree, totalled.
Oh, who ran into him? A county Deputy Sheriff driving his county Explorer. I think he was texting...no brake lights or skid marks...nothing. The next morning, I contacted a very popular attorney around here who knows me well from my job. He took up the job in a heartbeat. Waitin for pics to be emailed to me.
-
Started repairing the firewall. Thinks it's going to take longer than planned!
-
Yesterday I hauled 1.6 ton of #304 gravel in it but I think that's going the other way with it?
You mean what did you do to improve your truck? Well, I put a stereo in it last night that I got for free out of a car I scraped.
-
Went to turn the heater down and snapped the fan control lever off. 30 year old plastic and 5 degrees outside don't get along very well.
slammed- hope you're feeling better
-
slammed how did that happen and why did you sell it?
-
Thanks guys, my left shoulder is still hurting when I move it more than a lil bit but its getting slowly better. I was dog tired and heading home from my girlfriends place at about 3:30, I must of fell asleep at the wheel because I don't remember a thing except waking up on a stretcher in an ambulance.
I sold the 74 to my brother cause he needed some wheels and I needed some cash, I haven't really been driving it anyway because my left knee is jacked up and the clutch wears me out in traffic, I'm going in for surgery in Jan. The funny thing is the 74 got better mileage than the Yukon.
-
Just recieved my new front marker lights and Chevelle SS fender emblems.
Tonight I am pricing out bed wood and stainless bed strips/bolts.
Still need to decide on what to do for tail lights and still need to order
a front bed panel and roll pan.
Lots of money going out.
-
To Slammed: Hope your feeling better soon!
To Irish: Deer meat is very lean and good for you. What luck!
-
My brother brought the 74 by for some work today, he thought the alternator went out, turned out to be the block to firewall ground strap let go, easy fix and I got to drive her around for a while.
-
ordered new rollpan.
-
Pretty much just standing around swearing at it.
I know this is an old thread, but THAT is an awesome answer! (I was going to use it myself.)
But seriously, I lubed all the keyed locks with some powdered graphite. And forgot to buy a new dome light bulb. Again.
-
Was up till about 3:00 AM installing new front axles, brake pads, upper and lower ball joints, and a new drivers side front center bolt!
-
I installed 6in springs and shocks last week. Week prior, finished my electric fans.
Upcoming, new transmission lines, temp switch, and trans temp gauge.
-
Pulled off the hood, the cowl. Cleaned all that out. Pulled all the emissions and the wipper motor out. Got rid of the cruise control. Getting ready to clean up the engine bay and paint it before my swap.
-
Back on it! both driver side doors (outside) in primer now I have the lines right. Next to drop them off and finish the cab then turn it round and start the other side!
