Hello everyone, Im new to this site, but love the info and other peoples rides on here, so I figured I would register and put my truck on as well. Its a 1984 GMC Sierra Classic I bought from my college roomate, and have been slowly getting it where I want. It had an engine out of a newer caprice cop car, but he had spun a bearing in the bottom end, and an old tired turbo 350 tranny. I yanked out the engine, freshened it up, and had a new 700r4 built for it because as I remember, the 350 tranny was horrible on the freeway. I had a friend that had the wheels from a truck he sold a few years and didnt have any use for them so I threw them on too. they are jesse james .50 cal 20"s on toyo 33" tires. I have done a few lil things here and there on it since its been a runner, but I am parking it for the winter so I can save for the big projects I wanna do to it in the spring, such as:
-either 4.10 or 4.56 gears
-new exhaust (currently has 2 inch pipes with old glass packs. Want to do 2.5, x piped into dynomax mufflers)
-put the A/C pump and lines back in from the previous owner that removed them.
- polyurethane bushings
-carpet kit
-either reupholster my seats or diff seats?
- digital dash
- either 1 or 2 JL audio new 12tw flat sub(s)
- Remote start/ alarm
- new upper and lower ball joints
- shocks/ steering stabilizer
I will be posting updates as I go, hope you enjoy! And If you see something you think would work better than what Im trying to do, let me know, Im always open to sugguestions

Welcome
-
Welcome! You'll love this site for sure. I dig your truck but can't get past the rims. You're the one that has to love it, though. I might be 33 going on 84 by my tastes!
-
Yea Ive been checking out everyones rides, and I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing, as it doesnt help with the whole "park it til spring" idea, just makes me want to do it all now! Ive noticed the rims are a love/ hate thing. I personally like them, but I can see where some dont. the truck will probably never go wheeling unless I put a bigger lift on and different tires/ wheels, and the fender wells had to be trimmed a lil for the set up on there now.
-
Nice truck/build but the wheels are horrible IMO.
-
Welcome from California, nice foundation to start a project with. Enjoy.....

How do you lock your hubs? Or do you have full time 4x4? ???
-
great truck (to each his own on the wheels). what brand nerf bars are those or are they custom? length? thx.
-
The hubs are auto locking, so I just put it into 4wheel in the cab and go.
the nerf bars were on there when I got the truck. Next time im under there Ill see if theres any markings. The guy I bought it from ordered most stuff for it, so that would be my best guess. I can pull a measurement for you next time I go fire it up. Ive got it stored at my parents for the winter.
-
hey imsuchaman55,
thanks for the reply and if you could get me more info that would be great. what was the place the guy got most of his stuff, you left it blank.
ps. I kinda like your wheels, they look like iron crosses.
-
I dont know why it is blank, he said he ordered most of the stuff from truck. Im glad someone likes the wheels, they are west coast chopper wheels, with the big maltese cross, and the bullet shell casings around the edge of the wheels every 8 inches or so. Ive attached a pic online I found since I dont have any closer ones. Theyre different, I wouldnt have went out and bought them, but he wasnt using them and they looked better than the old wheels so I said what the heck, lets try em out

Whoops! that makes sense, Ill make sure to never do that again!! I dont want to get banned or seem like I am trying to advertise for another company on a forum of someone running a business.

Hate to let you know but that was not a cop car engine...If it had been it would have had flat top pistons.

Civi LO5 tbi 350's got the dished pistons like yours.
9C1 cop car LO5's also had the old L98 TPI cam.
And those wheels are hidious.

I didn't realize you were in Sac., you said you got the truck from a college roommate, are you just here to go to school or do you live here also ?
-
Welcome from South Carolina, nice ride.
-
I was going to school in idaho, but have since graduated and moved back to sac. I am currently converting this to 2wd with corvette IFS and IRS with coilovers all around.
Maybe more people would like my truck if it were rattle can flat black and had stock or pep boys steel wheels with white walls....
Oh well about the motor not being a caprice, Thats what I was told. Im gonna throw a new cam and vortec heads on it as Im changing frames over.
-
Vortec heads will make the Compression ratio just right for pump gas. and You may have a caprice engine, Just not a police caprice engine. the truck looks great, Its just the getto wheels that look horrible. no need for whitewalls, just some good looking regular size wheels will be fine.
