I have a few questions for anyone that is running a big block in their truck. I am putting a 396/402 in my 1980 C10 LWB 2wd.
If you can, please answer the following:
Headers? ie..model and manufacturer
Motor mounts? stock or aftermarket and where did you get em.
Belt system? Factory later model serpentine or March? With ac.
Oil pressure sending unit? type and location.
I was also thinking about a 3 in exhaust with Flowmasters.... and switching to a Sanden 508 compressor for the a/c since mine was dying.

I didn't use a sending unit, I used a mechanical gauge.

Here's a kit that adapts SBC serpentine system to a BBC.

But if you're definitely going for a Sanden compressor, you'll have to either fab your own brackets or go with an aftermarket setup like March.

Not gonna drop it and the budget changes monthly. I had thought about hitting the junk yard and getting some later model sbc serp stuff. That would definitely free up some $ for some quality headers. And I would have to get an A4 compressor. The March that I looked at was model 23080. It is 765.00 from Summit and does not include the Sanden.

When I swapped my first BBC into my '77 4x4 I went with Headman hedders. I had fitment problems, and Headman wasn't much help. So, I tried Hooker headers and they work fine. So no more Headman hedders for me.
Also, stock small block motor mounts will work on your truck, but there is a different engine side "clamshell" for the big block. The p/n for this is 14067103, and it is still available at your local Chevy dealer. When I tried to use small block clamshells on my BBC the factory 7 blade clutch fan would rub the bottom of the BB radiator shroud. The BB clamshells lifted the engine just enough to prevent this.
I bought an entire serpentine belt assembly, alt/ps/ac etc with pulleys, and brackets for $20.00. Now I am not going to use it because of the new mission for my truck. I'll save it, and let my son use it on one of his trucks.
Look to pay more like $300.00, not $20.00 like I did for the entire BBC belt assembly.
