Title: 16"or17" with 35's?
Post by: M3 WRATH on November 15, 2010, 05:43:42 pm
Need some opinions.  I'm currently running 35x12.5R15 on my '83 GMC 4x4 swb with 6" BDS lift.  It's time for new tires and I'd like to change the look of the tires slightly.  With the 15x10 wheels the tires look like big bulgy donuts so I was thinking about going up to a 16 or 17 inch wheel (Mickey Thompson classic locks) while staying with the 35 inch tires to change the profile a bit.  I do a bit of light offroading but nothing serious - a fair amount of highway driving also.  Does anyone have pictures of that wheel/tire combo on their trucks?  Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!

I run 35" BFG's on 16.5" rims.

ha ha, 16.5 and then I don't really have to decide between the two sizes!  Are there a few tire options with a 16.5" wheel?

There are several common sizes for 16.5" rims and tires.

Rim Widths:
6.75, 8.25, 9.75, 12, 14

Tire Sizes:
33x12.5, 35x12.5, 36x12.5, 37x12.5, 38 etc  There are a couple oddballs that really let you get creative with tire fitment, but they are harder to get, ex 34x9.5. 35x15.5

16s are cheaper then 17s
15s are usualy cheaper then both but rarely have a decent payload capacity
315/75/16
315/70/17
those are both 35x1250 equivalant both come in C,D,E load ranges
