hey guys, been away a while but looking to get back into the 73-87 schene and need some answers. i have found a 1984 chevy k-30 4x4 long bed, all new gm body parts on it, steel cowl hood, 14 bolt full floater rear with 4.11 eaton posi in it and has a disc brake conversion, truck has factory 454, long tube headers, flowmaster mufflers, truck was a 4 speed but now has a turbo 350 with 205 transfer case. 3 inch suspension lift, new 35 x12.50 tires on new wheels, dana 60 front thats completly rebuilt. only thing really needs is both front cab supports need replaced, drivers floor has place ate thru bought big as grapefruit, interior not greatest. guys willing to sell it for $5,000 and has all the 4 speed stuff including trans, 2 suspension lifts, several bumpers and parts to go with it. is the price seem about right??? truck was painted 6 years ago and still looks decent

Sounds like its got some nice stuff, but its really hard to say without pics. In Texas we shy away from anything with rust. Where your from that might be the norm. Sounds more like a 4k truck with the rust issues, but again its hard to tell with out pics.

for this area and a 26 year old truck it has very very little rust. u very seldom see a 1 ton big block in this area, let alone one thats had that much done to it. guy said hes put over $10,000 in it in past 7 years, wish he would have left it a 4 speed, but he has real bad leg so thats why he changed to an auto. hes also willing to throw in a set of rebuilt 454 heads and an weind alum intake. just wondering if it sounds like fair price

kind of agree with a 4k price the engine and trans you can probably buy used for about 1k and I'm rounding numbers up hood and panels idk 1k? dana 60 (700) 14bolt with conversion (300) so another k. suspension and tires one more k

I wouldnt pay 6k for one of these trucks unless it was pretty clean period. If that thing had some rockwells under it instead of dana's Id consider it, but maybe in Florida we just try to be like Texas and avoid rust.

This may be 1 of those things that varies from 1 area to another. In Mass there aren't too many solid rust free trucks left. Most of the rust free trucks are restored rot boxes so if you buy one you hope the body work was done right.
In Mass 5K would not be outrageous for a big block 1 ton, even with some rust.
I always break in down in my mind like Irish Alley did, and to me You would have a hard time building something with a 454 and a Dana 60 for $5000.
Also keep in mind that it sounds like he has over $1000 in spare parts for it you could sell off.
I would show up with $4000 and have a game plan to get the truck home right then and there. Remember that money talks. I always show up with my car trailer in tow to show people I an serious and not a tire kicker.
Say you can get it for $4000, sell of the spare parts for $1000. Now your into it for $3000. Fix the rust (Captkaos sells the parts) Along with a few other things I'm sure it will need and you will have a solid truck for around $4000.

kinda what i was thinking, the only rust in the truck is the front cab supports wich are cheap, and the one place in the floorboard bout big as a grapefruit, but he put a patch panel on it. other than that he has replaced every body panel on it with gm parts. like said u hardly see a 1 ton big block in this area, most are small block 1/2 tons wich are ate to heck. way i lookin at it is if i were to build a 73-87 truck, its got ALOT of the things id want to put on a truck, cowl hood, big block, 1 ton, dana 60 front, 14 bolt full floater rear with disc brakes, and the extra parts are a plus even if i dont use em im sure i could sell em.

Unless there's something seriously wrong with it I think it would be a good deal, especially if you got the price down to $4k or so. The tires alone are a grand. I bet a disc brake conversion on a 14 FF isn't cheap either. Like mentioned before, it seems like a lot of money for an old truck with some rust, but I know that I couldn't build that truck for less than it's selling for.
