Title: The Rebirth
Post by: Sartobuilt on November 21, 2010, 10:16:50 pm
After 5 long years of sitting since the accident I just picked up a doner truck to fix mine. Its a 1980 SRW one ton 4x4. Factory bucket seat and tac.

Last week I tore it down.........

How'd you trash that truck?

It got wrecked doing back to back pulls. The other guys foot got stuck on his gas pedal and he flung my truck into a telephone pole. I only had the truck put together for about 5 months and 3000 mi. It really sucked!!!! No full coverage and his insurance company wouldn't cover it. :'(

I have to know what the adjuster said when you explained that accident!  Bonus points if it was an outsourced call center and you had to explain what it was!

Sorry you wrecked your truck, I am not surprised the insurance didn't cover it.  I never knew 'hitching bumpers' was anything more than an urban myth, but I can't think of anything good coming from it.  At best you tear up your truck, at worst an accident like yours or hitting a person standing around.

Good luck with the rebuild.  It is a very nice truck.

Sorry to see a sweet rig get bent up like that. But now the rebuild is on.At least you can start with a great foundation, tear the frame down, blast it, paint it, and install all your running gear, and give it all a new lease on life. But these 4x4 LWB rigs are beginning to wear on me more n more.Maybe i should look into a lwb in the future for a new build..

thanks

I'eseen tug-o-war competitions before.  most of them at fair grounds.  I've seen a lot of nice trucks break doing them as well.

LOL yes I am, Look at the rear hooks, I have them mounted so the strap will fall off if there is slack in the strap....... I finall realized why the other guy did what he did. After we were done pulling and my truck was sitting in four big holes in the ground. I asked him to pull me out, as he was pulling me back I was in reverse, after i was out of the holes I backed up a little bit to put some slack in the strap to disconnect it. Well he was still going forward and when he felt a tug he assumed that i was trying to pull him again. So that's when he floored it. I was still in reverse so when I got flung forward my foot stabbed the gas hitting him and causing his foot to get stuck on the gas. And I went for a ride.......IT WAS FREEKING CRAZY. It took a long time to figure out what exactally happened.

Where did the aluminum sliding rear window come from?

Nice truck. :)

But this is why I pull a sled. if anything goes wrong the sled operator locks the brakes. In 25 years I have never seen a truck wrecked pulling the sled......Now tractors, that is a different story.  :o

Oh, and BTW, those Dana60 Spicer lockouts on that green truck's front axle are worth their weight in gold.
