just noticed this problem last night and haven't try to trouble shoot yet! just thought i would throw this out there to see what you guys thought. I am just reinstalling my dash had it out to do work to my gauges etc. and i was checking everything over and cant get my 4x4 light to come on when I put the truck in 4x4. what would cause this. I have the front hub apart awhile ago might have done something there? how can i trouble shoot this. do the hubs have to be locked in for the light to come on. just looking for ideas to try. So far all I did was put a test light in the socket and i got nothing. I know it works because I had it on before the rebuild.

I believe there is a switch inside the transfer case shift handle boot that is simular to a brake light pedal switch that activates the dash light. I've seen the part number listed in the catalogs before. I would think that would be the best place to start.

A simple check is to make sure that you put the 4x4 light bulb in the right socket.
It is not controlled by the grid on the back of the cluster. It 1 of the 2 stand alone bulbs that plug into the cluster.

Not sure which t-case you have, but on an NP208 the indicator switch is threaded into the case itself. When you move the lever to select the range it moves a cam inside the case that pushes a detent ball in the end of the switch. Make sure that's plugged in.

In a 205 its a switch that's in the top part of the transfer case on the passengers side above the front shaft it will have two wires going to it

i am not sure which one I have, but I will check those switches tonight. My guess is that is what the problem is. I had it out of the truck laying in the corner for a few months I am sure it must have been bumped or damaged. I also dont remember pluging anything in to any of them but that was awhile ago.

Ok heres is what i found out so far, i have a 205 transfer case ( are they any good) I do have 2 wires going into a plug at the top of the case and they are pluged in so i went inside the cab and pulled the bulb. tried the bulb in another out let and it works so bulb is good, so i grabbed the test light and put the truck in 4 wheel drive and i have no power to the bulb outlet....no what anything else to test or is my plug in my transfer case bad, is this a common problem.

well first check all your fuses, then check power at the switch when connected if everything else is good and theres no power, you most likely have a break in a wire.

205 is good. and even on my switch it works for 4hi but not 4 low so it could just be a bad switch
