Title: turn signal acting weird
Post by: bobcooter on December 01, 2010, 11:36:08 am
My left turn signal started acting up yesterday. While I was driving home it would not blink like I had a bulb burned out. When I got home I checked it with it in park and the key on. Both front and rear bulbs blinked but really fast. This morning on the way to work, a repeat of yesterday. Would not blink and acted like a bulb was burned out. Checked it in the parking lot with the key on and again, both front and rear blink super fast. The right side works properly. Any ideas?

If all the bulbs are good I would throw a new relay in and see if that fixes it.

Sounds to me like the ground is bad on the LF turn signal.  If you checked it with the 4 way flashers on it is a different flasher that works those than the turn signals.

I had that happen to me. It was a wire that was rusted hrough along the frame rail. Easy fix.

Corroded sockets or bad ground.  Either way its too much resistance--same thing that happens when a bulb burns out.

I was monkeying around with the left rear turn signal housing last week. Maybe the ground came loose? I checked the Emergency flashers and they are working OK.

I agree-- sounds like a bad ground.

Took a flasher out of a parts truck and stuck it in this evening. With the key on the blinker worked fine. Thought "I got lucky". Then I cranked the engine after dark to take the wife shopping and with the headlights on, the blinker would not work. Turned the headlights off and turned on the blinker. Not only did it work it would make my dash lights blink on and off as well. Tomorrow when I get off work I am going to check the rear tail light assembly and see if I screwed something up back there. If you work the blinker by hand with the headlights on the the left front will work but the right rear goes on and off. I'll keep y'all posted.

OK , I promised to let you guys know what I found out, even though I am a little embarrassed to to tell anyone. Turns out, when I put the tail light assembly back together I did not get the turn signal light in correctly. I thought it felt a little funny when I put it in. Removed it and reinstalled properly and problem solved...
