Title: 24V Cummins??

Has any one here ever swapped a 24v 5.9 cummins into their 73-87?  Im wondering how to go about wiring the ecm to run the engine? If it is to crazy i may look into swapping a 12v. but i really want the 24v so can someone share their info on how it's done... thanks

Why the 24V Cummins?  Most people go for the 12 valve over the 24 valve for the following reasons.

1.  Don't have to deal with the ecm
2.  12 valve has a lot more potential power due to the P injection pump
3.  Stronger block - 98-01's had issues with cracked blocks
4.  Easier to modify for more power
5.  Less problematic injection system - 24 valve engines were notorious for lift pump and injection pump failures

Ditto the 12 valve.  If you do go with the 24 valve you'll be able to upgrade it better, but it would be expensive! Just be careful that you don't get one of the 53 blocks, and Edahall can explain all that to you.

Go with a 12 valve. I have a 24 valve in my '99 Dodge and I wish I had gone with a 12 valve for the same reasons listed above.

12-valve all the way for this, stand alone electronics wont be the hard part just a pain and tons of money.

If head flow is what you are after just remember that a 12-valve worked head will out flow a 24-valve head. Back in the day everyone was swapping to 24-valve heads to flow air, then guys started working 12-valve heads and soon found out there was a ton of room to work, big cfm!
