Title: power steering problem

i changed out my pwr. steering pump and lines and did what haynes manual said. first time trying this. filled to cold line, turned pump counterclockwise and didn't see any air bubbles. lifted of ground and turned fine both ways, lower and they do not turn at all. fluid level is at cold level, not sure what is going on. i don't want to over fill the pump and be in trouble. am i missing something here? thanks for any info.

I don't understand what you are saying  ???

You lifted of ground? You turned what both ways? The pump pulley? The steering?

hey vile, i'll try and simple it down. i put in a new power steering pump and lines. i went by the directions in the haynes manual. rotate the pump counter-clockwise to get the air bubbles out (didn't see any),then jack the front up so that the wheels turn freely with engine running (turned smooth), lowered it back down and i cannot turn the wheels. had engine running and fluid level is just below hot add line. any suggestions, thanks

I could be wrong but I think you've got to jack it up and turn the steering lock to lock several times to get the air out of the system.  Monitor your fluid level as you're doing this as it will drop.  Doesn't the repair manual say something about doing that?

hey jaredts, i did what manual said, but could only get air out when jacked up off the ground and not running, i also lost most of my fluid in the process, and the wheels would still not turn when on the ground. but i figured it out and loosened the lines off the steering box and ran the engine until it wasn't foamy anymore. thanks for the info

How was it fixed? You loosened up the lines???

loosened the 2 lines running into the steering box a little until fluid ran out clear. i must of had an air bubble in the box bescause after i did that it was fine. it doesn't sound conventional but it worked.
