Title: tranny trouble
Post by: r1087 on December 30, 2010, 01:42:20 pm
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have an '87 r10 w/a 305 700r4 tranny. whats happening is that it wont shift out of 1st gear if i slam on the pedal. If i pull over and put it in reverse then into overdrive, it' ll start shifting again. Before this started happening, it would shift really hard from 1st to 2nd then it would shift fine after that. I'm clueless when it comes to transmissions, so any advice would help. I've asked around locally and keep getting different answers so i was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. Thanks

Check that the tv cable or tv valve isn't sticking.

i tried that first but didint work. i had my cousin look at it while i was at work and he found a small plastic gear that goes behind a cap mounted just in front of where the speedo cable plugs into the tranny. i have no idea whats it called but he swapped it out and it did the trick. cant beat a $15 fix! thanks anyway though

That is the Governor gear, That is the main thing that controls the shifts.
