Well tried to post this earlier and for some reason it didn't take.
Went today and checked out a 1973 Camper special , has a targetmaster 350 older style, sm465 and a 205 t case I believe. It sat for many years in a field and the guy I got it from got it and started redoing things like the brakes, rebuilding the wheel cyls and replacing the front brake hoses and replacing the front parking brake cable. But because the bottom of all the sheetmetal was rusted so he had the bright idea to screw diamond plate sheet metal to the lower part of the sides...so he's gonna remove that and I'll have alot of screw holes to weld up.
Good news it does run and drive, but it needs tires, more like rims and tires need replaced due to em being 16.5 inch rims.

Wow, that looks to be a great starter project, hope you got at a great deal.
-
I like it. Thing's got potential and doesn't look bad for the year. Good luck.
-
I like those rims. Nice project too, its always good to here someone has saved another squarebody.

yea its too bad they are 16.5's I'll have to try and find some sucker on craigslist to pawn em off on.

You can still get 16.5 tires. My distributor doesn't stock them but can get them for me within a day.
-
I have 33 12.5 16.5 on my truck now, but I have stock steelies that I rattle canned satin black. I stick to the old half tire diameter rim size theory.
-
Yea , you can still get a few, But they are double in cost as to any other size out there, most 16.5's I have found are $200 or more.
-
But with 16.5s there are a ton less garbage tires on the market. Most are half decent and a few are exceptional.
-
I can get good 16-17 inch tires for less. plus I'm not hauling 8k in the bed,
-
Well got her home today, runs and drives great, but with the aluminum removed off the driver side of the bed I seen something bad, The knucklehead old man cut off the side of the bed and wheel well because it had a little bit of rust...If it was only as bad as the passenger side it could have been fixed with patch panels. But with him hacking off almost the complete side I'm gonna have to get a bedside from the junkyard , or find a whole bed. Run and sounds good with the late model exhaust he installed.

He needed a piece of metal for something so he proceeded to hack it out of the best part of the bed....idiot.

That rig would make a cool looking flatbed.
-
noooooo No flatbeds here..

Need a little bit less work than my 73...
-
Picked up 2 doors tonight, One aftermarket drivers door and a good used passenger door from a guy down the road from me.

While I was turning the engine over to position it at NO.1 I noticed some slack in the timing chain, After checking it , looks to have about 10 degrees of slop..lol So it will get a gasket kit and a new chain might install a set of 305 H.O. Heads I got laying around.
-
Don't forget your new Generals ;D
-
No worries there, I hate o part this thing out, but the rear frame and body is just too far gone, and I'll never really ever need that front dana 60 .
-
Well the timing chain was worn out, So I installed a double roller chain, and bought all the gaskets to seal her up and Slowly getting the block clean, Installed a new oil pump and screen and check the condition of the bearing, This engine despite how it looked on the outside it really clean and has VERY low wear , bearings look like they where just installed and the bores still have the cross hatching. After I get it installed into my 80 it will be worthy of some vortec heads in the future.

After I get the intake resealed I'm gonna finish degreaseing the block and paint the rest black. I hate orange and blue engines.
-
That one piece pan gasket looks like the real deal.
-
Yea read alot of reviews that say they work great, ANYTHING is better than the oil 4 piece setup. Can't wait to see how that new double lip rear main seal holds up. Now I just need two good exhaust manifolds.
-
Those look like original plug wires haha. Thats good to know that the rotating assembly is in great condition.
-
even had the old green striped AC plugs...

Jim I feel your pain, my 74 k10 I bought the p.o. welded 1/4" plate basically all over the cab floors and up the inside of the cab corners and kick panels. Was going to remove it and fix it right, but he really welded it and warped everything else. So I dragged a 78 k10 home tonight for the body. (someone tried to steal the 78, they got the transmission and transfer case, radiator and driveshafts ) and basically trashed the steering Column.

Note the nice new China made exhaust manifolds... I was pissed cause the Ebay ad said they had the heat shield, and when I got it ...It didn't , so I tried chatting with a rep online and he kept telling me it never said that , even after I gave him the link AND quoted the exact phase from the ad, so I told him screw it, I'll wait 7 days and leave negative feedback. I really didn't care it was not on there , its just the fact that is stated it came with one.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v189/ironroad9c1/1980%20custom%20deluxe/IMG_0305.jpg) And she's in.. It was a pain trying to get the trans lined up with the bellhousing, So I'm back and forth under the truck trying the get everything line up Then I see the frigging transmission isn't even bolted to the crossmember...RRRRRR After a few choice words I got a bolt in the trans mount and lowered the jack from the front of the trans and it slipped right in....
-
It looks good, you are making real progress.

Nice work, Jim. Its definately worth the extra work to clean up and paint everything. Thanks for sharing the pics.
