This is the numbers stamped on the front on the passenger side of the block, it has the mechanical fuel pump pattern but not plumbed for it. that tells me this engine is post 87. It has the canted center bolts on the intake. This engine is in my 82 K20 4x4 but it was previously a diesel. I am trying to figure out what engine so I can get the tune up stuff for it

You need to look behind the driver side head, There is a lip on the back of the Block which has the engine casting number. You might have to lean over in there and stick your hand back there with a rag and clean it off, But you can feel the lip. The number is stamped on that pad.

I just looked up your suffix code, and it comes up as a 1980 LS9 (350) 155 hp, 4 bolt main.
-
Just curious, what transmission do you have?
-
The year of the motor doesn't really matter if you are getting tune up stuff unless it kept the TBI.
-
i dont understand how it can be a 1980 and the fuel pump location not be plumbed. The heads I understand can be newere, with the canted center intake bolts and the center valve cover bolts, but what engine or what would it have been in to not have the fuel pump plumbed. 1980 everything was carbed wasnt it
-
BTW, i thimk it has the TH400 tranny
-
By not plumbed, are you saying there is no hole for the mechanical fuel pump? or the hole has a plate over it? What did you get the motor out of?
73-87 trucks went to TBI in 1987 1986 was the last year for carbs on our Trucks. Get the casting number off the back of the Block, that will tell the tail of what you have.
And Thanks to Jeff Drew for the info provided from his web site. Vin numbers and suffix codes.

The motor was already in the truck when I got it. It has the pattern fpr the fuel pump but no hole fpr the rod and return whole. Its got to be newer. When I get back, I will see if I can see the other numbers on it

So there is no plate or anything on the fuel pump boss?
