Title: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton
Post by: 77 cc lb on January 06, 2011, 10:24:46 am
hey everyone, i've done some research here but have'nt found an answer. i have a '77 3/4 ton crew cab and was wondering  how hard it would be to turn into a 1/2 ton? i found an '87 1/2 ton for $800. i can use most of the truck, body and interior wise, just wanted to know if i could swap out suspensions as well. thanks for any info.

I would think it would be a fairly easy swap if both are 2wd or both are 4wd since the frames are dimensionally the same. You may need to drill holes in the frame if bolt hole don't line up or modify the driveshaft for a different yoke.

Yes it can be done.  Crew Cab short beds are popular with this setup.

is it just a remove and replace job or more involved, plus it is a crew cab long bed. so i might have to modify the driveshaft since it is a double driveshaft? thanks for the info gents.

You could swap the front suspension but you would need the tie rod ends to match the 1/2T spindles.
