The parking brake pedal on my 87 R10 will not return to the up position. The rear cables are new. I can pull it up while pulling out the release handle. Is there a spring on the assembly or maybe I need a replacement???
-
Sounds like the front part of the cable is hanging up.
Have you replaced that?
Did you lube it?
-
What about the return spring on the pedal? Grease the pivot point too.
-
The front cable was not replaced. But it does move freely. The back cables were bad and replaced. I will try to check the spring as suggested.... Thanks..

I'd like to know the answer to this also as my parking brake on my 86 does the same thing which causes my dash brake light to stay on :/
-
I'll be interested to see more about this...sounds like a common problem. When I bought mine, the pedal was tied up with twine. ??? Haven't tackled that one yet. I figured that the first time I tried to set the brake, it would lock up and stay there. ::) Does anyone know of some good pictures of the assembly? I only see a very small spring and wonder if my return spring is gone?
-
x2 on the spring, should have a pretty stiff spring on the pedal assy itself. When you pull the handle to release the locking mechanism, the spring is what brings the pedal back up.
-
Mine was like this; I just had to tighten the cable.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the same parking brake issue in my '75. The spring on my pedal assembly is evidently missing, since I don't see one. The diagram in my Chiltons manual is very tiny and doesn't show me what I need to know. Does anyone have a picture of theirs, so I know what the spring looks like (it went SOME where....maybe it made it's way from the ground to my spring drawer.) and where it goes?

Mine was like this; I just had to tighten the cable.
This is in front of the transmission crossmember. Tighten the nut until the pedal returns to the right position.
The spring is near the back brakes.

This is what fixed mine! No big return spring near the pedal.

Ah, I misunderstood.
-
Just watch when tightening it up it doesn't get tight enough to make the brakes drag when its off.

This is a little old, but i was always taught to depress the pedal 3 clicks then tighten the nut until the cable is tight.
