Hey guys im kinda on the wall as for what to do about getting a new stereo for my truck...the problem is im not sure how well the old school looking stereos that are made nowadays sound..also they cost a pretty penny compared to the new looking head units.

so heres what im deciding between
1. get a Retro Sound or Custom Autosound USA without knowing how well they sound..how durrable they are..and pay about 150$ more.....the upside is itll bolt right in my dash and look awesome :)
2. get a nice old radio from pick n pull. Clean it up and mount it in my dash just to keep that nice classic look..and mount a new alpine or pioneer head unit in my glove box.....itll be a pain but ill have the classic radio in my dash for looks and the new head unit in the glove box that i can hook an i phone up to and know itll sound great.
What do you guys think? Anybody ever used a Retro Sound or any other new clasic looking stereo?

IMHO if this was a nice 68-72 I would be more inclined to do something a little more retro, but I recently cut my dash for my '77 K20 and put in a Pioneer single DIN unit with bluetooth and iPod. I was looking for features like iPod, Bluetooth and HD radio. I narrowed it down to a Kenwood and a Pioneer. Tried them both at CarToys with my iPod and the Kenwood interface was really clunky and slow, but had the built-in HD radio connection. The Pioneer had built-in Bluetooth but the iPod connection was much better and WAY faster! Wasn't sure about how the bluetooth would work in one of these old trucks with all of the engine and road noise in the cab, but it turned out to work really good! Now I love it and want to get one installed in my '91 V3500. The installation is really sano too. I did it myself and spent time cutting the dash just right. Also...different manufacturers have different trim bezels. If you get one with a thin trim bezel it just fits on the stock Carrier Chart (that is what I call the plastic dash piece that goes over the instrument cluster).
