4 Wheeling across Alaska, Looked liked a 73-87 stepside in the mix from the short previews.
-
thanks for the info..
-
They go mudding and have all sorts of fun lol. Still like the britts top gear better
-
Dang Good show tonight! I LMAO. And yes the 83 Stepside was crowned KING.
-
Was a good show, they are hard on trucks, but couldn't kill the chevy. ;D
-
I thought it was funny the Ford died first....
-
While I was saddened to see the Stepside get beat to crap, It verified what we already knew...
CHEVY TRUCKS ROCK, furd and dodge stink!
-
the Chevy won, I couldnt believe it. Honestly I thought that the Dodge would die 1st because everybody Ive ever known to own one has broken it. Awesome show. I watch it every week myself but thats just me.
-
Would love to do that!! My brother in law lives there and we are gooing up there this july. But I won't be driving my 84 K10 up there! I can't imagine the fuel cost!!
-
While I still like the BBC Top Gear better, it is easier to catch the American Top Gear on TV (at least for me). Most of the guys at work always talk smack about the American version, but I don't know...I kinda like it.
I watched this episode last night with much anticipation. Having spend many years in Alaska I was interested to see this episode. First you have to take it all with a grain of salt; it is entertainment as we know! I do have to admit I was really cheering for the Chevy as I am sure all of us on this board were!!
The F*** dying on that rocky hill climb looked like it was just a busted U-Joint. They should have had some spares and fixed it right there! I think the Dodge died because they kept swamping it and with all of the electronics on board they probably got fried!! I have to admit that I was surprised that the Chevy didn't die a time or too with all of the swamping too or hydro-locked! It isn't like it had a snorkel like that Stu*** Toy***.
I think what suprised me the most (again...gotta remember this is entertainment) is that the Chevy would have made it all that way without running out of gas!!! I know my '77 seems to suck down the gas when I am out hunting in the woods. I bet they had a fuel supply off camera.
Pretty good episode I think!

I agree with you about the newer Dodge trucks, but I had an '85 Ramcharger with factory 4 wheel posi and that truck did great wheelin, in the mud snow or anything. They really should have had a few more trucks running to truly see who would have made it, I'm a Chevy guy, I don't like Fords but older Dodges were decent trucks..

We are paying $3.80 a gallon for gas up here. When we go for a 4 day trip we fill both tanks and carry an extra 20 gallons, and come out near empty. I go wheeling north/west of where they were. It is absolutely gorgeous. You'll find yourself driving off the trail staring at some of the views. Too bad these dang winters are so long! Wish I had their support so I could get a little more aggressive on the trails with out fear of breaking something. It looked like a blast. I must say I thought the it was going to be closer between the Ford and Chevy.
-
I thought the Chevy was a goner, When he had it on that bank. If the Dodge had of bumped him, He would of been. I think the little Chevy had some Lockers, The end scene when he pulled out of the river after touching the Iceberg, He was scooten up out of there.
Gas prices there are a little cheaper than I would have guessed. Paying $3.15 Here in Richmond KY
-
They have a chaise vehicle for the camera crew it had to be loaded with fuel. I thought the Dodge would win but they didn't baby one of them. For the Ford tough luck it look like it snapped the ear off the drive shaft. The Dodge just got pushed to hard chuck wouldnt have died if chuck was driving. And the diesel Chevy step side well glad she wasn't lol
-
Mine is the same way. Some times I think it would be cheaper to ship it and fly than drive it anywhere!!

The Ford and Dodge could have made it all the way if they didnt drive them like they stole them. A true truck owner wouldnt beat their truck like that unless they have a endless wallet or just didnt care.

On top of that, bring the right tools out wheelin' with you and then you can fix most injuries on the trail and keep going...

That is true, but I think the mission of the episode was to go until it broke.
-
Didn't get to see the episode myself so i went looking for it on the internet. Here's the link for anyone who missed it.

I watched it and was very happy to see the Chevy win!! I thought the Dodge would win, simply through not breaking down.

Where as I may be a little bias, I think the BBC Top Gear is great. I don't have the facility to watch your guys doing it. I'm guessing you too have a "Stig" and a guest in a reasonably priced car wizing round a track.
On a side note, I've just worked out the cost of fuel from GBP to USD > you better sit down!
I recall the US gallon is different to "our" measure but one litre of petrol is GBP 1-40. Multiply that by 4.54 for a UK gallon and then convert to USD = $10-41 for ONE gallon!! Now that is rude.

They do indeed have the stig and reasonably priced car thing. I watched it while in Florida and enjoyed it. It's not quite as slick as the BBC top gear, but it's still in it's infancy.
That $10.41 a gallon is only because the £ is stronger than the $. Everything seems cheaper to us in the states but I'm sure for an American it doesn't feel cheap, they get paid in dollars after all. If a bottle of Coke costs a dollar in the US, it'll cost a pound in the UK etc etc (not sure if that makes any sense?!?).

I’ll be strait up. I love BBC’s top gear. Its more entertaining just more funny all around. The guys on history try but they don’t have a funny man like Jeremy or hamster. They have tanner foust, a good racer and has a comical side. then they have Rutledge who appears to be kind of like James but a redneck type then you have Adam, I don’t know who or what he is but he doesn’t measure up to hamster at all. Jeremy makes me laugh at more things then all three of the U.S. tops gear guys.

Jeremy Clarkson is most funny when he's doing a car review in my opinion. I feel the studio sketches are sometimes a little too scripted. Some of his comments can be a little cringe worthy too, but on those occasions you have to think you're laughing AT him and not WITH him.

Yeah bud it does make sense > the one that gets me is shipping & import tax! If it wasn't those costs (for a hobby) I'd have a gold plated truck!
Back to Top Gear - How I'd love to present it!

Definitely one of the best jobs ever. Flying all over the world driving awesome cars and occasionally destroying stuff!!!
-
Not landing Adam carolla hurt them, Tanner foust is just a tool.
-
new top gear usa out. not 73-87 chevy but they tested a (rut) chevy 3500hd (tanner) ford 450 (adam) ram 3500. still watching on dvr now 8)
-
the chevy won ;D wasnt really good test though. the ford should of won according to the paper work
-
well next top gear is a blazer (rut) bronco (adam) and a jeep (tanner)
-
I just watched this episode on Streetfire. I was well pleased to see the Chevy make it, but I will admit that handling and maintenance has a lot to do with a truck's survivability in the wild.
Though it seems the Dodge would have been a shoo-in, I would have kept it off my odds list as I understand they have a few weak points in the drivetrain through part of the '90s and into this century. Not for sure about it, though.
The tiger caged Ford was post-apocalyptic/zombie awesome, though!
Personally, I think the Chevy had some advantages in weight, wheelbase, and relative simplicity for this challenge. I would have chosen it and not been so hard on her.
-
on a previous show, didn't rutledge drive a big 87-91 suburban? When they went thru the desert around Arizona going to vegas--the bronco broke an axle, and the winner was the suburban when the jeep ran out of gas...rutledge cruised to vegas with a few drops of gas left.
-
It was an 89 K5 blazer.
-
and don't forget, in a zombie Apocalypse, the square body is the car to have. ^_^ (seriously look at all the apocalypse movies it's always a square body suburban or pickup! I like the UK top gear. the us is just like a Heck you were making fun of you week copy. but the Alaska trip and the AZ one were ok- good eps.
=^_^=
-
In certain parts of the show they are driving those trucks with full cages in them and no helmets. Not sure if I would do that, but it is television. Great episode BTW!
-
EVERY car show including "top gear" is trash. The exceptions are motorweek and maybe, just maybe extreme 4x4, but that's not so hot either.
-
I remember when this post first came out, and missed the show. Now i saw the link to see it and it looked like so much fun, so what do you say ? Lets all jump on our trucks and hit that trail!

i believe the word your looking for is rubbish lol. but heres the thing stew. i can sit there and watch documentaries or guys working on a car in a garage but the bbc top gear add humor to it all its a educational / documentary and comedy wrapped in one bundle. and its entertaining to see fast cars and learn fun facts about them, then see some guys do stupid things. Buts all about what you like some may just want one thing while others want multiple
