Title: I feel like a dummy
Post by: BigBlueBoy on January 17, 2011, 05:53:28 pm
Okay so today while I was out shoveling I seem to have lost my keys and like an idiot I never made the spares i was going to make. So the question here is whats the best way to replace the ignition without the key? I know my 87 F150 I had, had a pin I drilled out when it broke since it wouldn't turn. Is there a pin like that in a 85 Suburban??

It depends on what style you have could be a screw that holds it in or you have to break part of the column off either way you need to take the steering wheel off

You can have a key made by a lock shop that will work not too sure of the cost but it's might be worth checking out.

Its cheaper to get into the column and swap the switch. A new one with two keys will run about $20 @ most chain stores. I've done it enough times now that I'm in and out in about 25 min.

This link is great for those needing to remove their lock cylinder for your ignition. Was very easy and I got it done in no time. Thanks everyone for your help.
