Hello to you all, My name is Mariah. ^_^ I'm acquiring my Grandfathers 1978/79 2/3 ton GMC reg cab 2wd 3speed(with granny) (don't know the engine it's BIG!) pickup (think it says sierra on the side) it's been sitting in grass for 3-5 years. my grandfather is ill and my grandmother has to sell off assets to pay the medical bills. but they are giving me (or might have to pay something small) for this wonderful truck.
my question is what should I expect when I go and pick up this spring? The floors, cab corners, and rocker panels plus bed have been replaced and maybe a fender too all repainted in 99/2000. what engine should it have? the int is vary basic, no a/c or power anything. not even tilt wheel. he used it mainly to haul coal to his house (coal powered heat) and to pull his travel trailer( a rather big one!) I believe it has a 8foot bed. I will get some pictures next time I am down at his house.
thanks! :)

a new fuel filter would also be a good idea before trying to start the engine.
also an oil change should be in short order.
It would be a good idea to give this engine a new cap and rotor and a new set of spark plug wires.
shortly after getting it running, however you may need them just to get it going.
you may also need to free up the brakes after sitting that long.
sometimes you'll have to do a lot to get them going, and you may not need to do anything.

Your plate pics are upside down, but in all it looks great for sitting 6 years without moving, and bravo for getting fired with just a battery and gas. That is great.
-
well it does/should have the 350 in it
-

Well I was going by the plate but being a gm it could also have the 305. should be the 350 unless it was swapped out and someone put a smaller motor in it. About the plate all I had to do was turn my computer upside down then it was right side up
