Title: exhaust
Post by: PromiseKeeper on January 21, 2011, 10:09:03 pm
Working on a 1980 c-10 swb with a 305. Need to replace the exhaust. I'd like to start at the Y pipe and do it all. Currently, there is a catalytic converter. I'd like to eliminate it. Were there some trucks manufactured that year that did not have a converter? Could I use the intermediate pipe from one of them to make it all bolt up? Did the "heavy half" trucks fall into this category? Thanks!!
Scott

First check your smog laws, dont need to remove cats if your not allowed to. Click on the banner at the top of this page for a good exhaust. All mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust.

Thanks for the reply, beastie. That exhaust looks like an awesome system, but right now $400 is out of reach. I'd like to put on an alumininized single exhaust and eliminate the cat. I'm not running headers. My question is ... is there a part number I can use to do that without having to take it to a muffler shop and having something fabricated?

If you really don't want the cat why not just gut it and buy the correct pipe for your truck?

Beastie is right, better check your smog laws, or you wont be able to pass next time you go to get it checked.  If you are not planning on running it on the road, a lot of companies sell bolt on exhaust systems, we tend not to mention company's that compete with Chris, We want to support this forum, that is why he referred you to Chris's store.  But if it is too pricey for you right now, we understand, just understand certain company's names will not be listed here.  Do a web search and you will find several that bolt on, I did and found several, I then decided after research that I would wait a little longer and get a good set and do it only 1 time.  Good luck with your project.
