just wondering if any one has ever heard or tried to get their exhaust system metalized? if you are unfamiliar metalizing is a process where zinc and or aluminum is sprayed on to a part for corrosion resistance. we do it at work but i do not know what kind of temps this is good to.
-
How expensive is the process? You would have to get it done after the exhaust is built so you can cover the welds.
-
i dont know price wise but yes you dont want to weld over this stuff it is NASTY!!!
-
Wouldn't that be called an Aluminized exhaust? You can buy them! In fact that is what I have on the '77
-
Galvanizing? It would be cheaper to buy stainless.
-
no it is not galvinizing or aluminizing it is a thermal spray system that deposits zinc, or a zinc/aluminum wire
-
Do you have info on it? Like a web site or something?
-
Most people use a ceramic thermal barrier coating typically referred to as ceramic coat.
-
well i am thinking of building my own exhaust system since i can not get what i really want using 2 1/2'' emt then i can blast it and metalize it to fight pipe rot. any thoughts would be great

POR-15 your exhaust!
-
what kind of temp range is the POR good for????
-
I get mine coated
-
por-15 makes an aluminum colored high temp paint called por-20.
-
I did a little research on this and couldn't find any mention of using it on anything with heat exposure. Bridges and outdoor steel structures mainly. My guess is that it wouldn't take the heat. IDK.
-
I was joking. I coated my exhaust with rattle can header paint. Turned out good.
