hey guys i am wanting to upgrade from the GM 3rl u joints to a 1330 or 1350 u joint when i get a new 4" drive shaft, im gonna need a pinion yoke, is there a pinion yoke factory with 1330 or 1350 that i can get in a junk yard to save money? if so from what vehicle? its for my 82 c10 1/2 ton 10 bolt 8.5" rearend.

why would you need a new yoke?

If you want to get some thing off at the junk yard, I am not sure, but you can buy the bigger yolks to fit a 10 bolt at any auto parts store.

i dont have to get a new yoke, i can get the ds built for the factory size u joints, but the stock u joints are gonna be the weak link. 1350 joints will be stronger than the stock ones i have. since im gonna spend money on a ds i want to do it once and be done with it. so thats why im gonna get 1350 joints.

weak link how? in what application?

you can have strong ds and slip yoke 1350 joints in front but if the rear joints are small and weaker that would be the weak link. its for my street/track truck gonna spray 150. how much abuse can the stock joints take?

Are you running slicks? How much power are you making without spray? I street/stripped my pickup with a 454 making at least 500hp for years and never had a problem.

yes gonna run 29" slicks. now im making 350hp without the spray, without the new cam and p&p heads. i should make 500 on the new setup with spray. now im focused on the rear then working my way to the front. were you running the tiny 3" ds? i was told by a few ds shops the 3" is to small for my setup and im gonna spin it to fast and break it. now i take it easy untill i get a new ds, at higher speeds i got some vibration.

350 at the crank or the tires? With an auto you are going to loose 80hp through the drivetrain.
Just from my experience, I would rather break a u-joint instead of a Driveshaft, with that said, the spider gears are going to go before the u-joints most likely.

350 crank hp, but should be making 500 whp with new setup. i dont think ill break the new detroit locker. so you think i should use the stock ujoints when i get my new ds built?

only one way to find out....but if your getting a new drive shaft built, they can upgrade the u joints...

350 crank power is going to be like 270hp through the drivetrain tops and less if the rating is without accessories.
The 1310's in the truck stock are set to hold 800 lb/ft at short duration. 1330's= 890, 1350= 1240.
In the end it is your decision. Contact Randys Rind and pinion if you need a crossover yoke. Like I said, I have ran the stock ones making good power.

ok thanks, i was thinking i have a 4" aluminum stock ds from a 2003 silverado z71, can i get that ds cut and balanced and can it handle high rpms?

Most of the newer trucks that have aluminum driveshafts are thin and will explode. If you are drag racing it, I would get a steel one.

yeah it is alot thinner than the stock 3" ds from my 82 c10. dang this has got me thinking now i just got a estimate for a new 4" steel driveshaft and ouch it gonna set me back $500-$550. so now im looking for a stock 4" that i can get shortened and balanced for $80. because i was told im gonna spin my 3" ds too fast and break it, what do you think?
