Title: rebuild parts question
Post by: thachevythang on February 11, 2011, 03:26:03 am
Rebuilding a 305 to replace a strait 6. Needing some help on some parts if anybody doesn't mind.

Purchasing this kit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEM-CSMHP749-000/

With this cam: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-12-600-4/

Getting proper lifters as well. Whats the best timing gear set I can get from summit with this application?

Do I need to also purchase the oil pump driveshaft and gear? Or can it be reused?

Thanks in advance!!!

The oil pump drive shaft can be reused but check the condition of the plastic sleeve on the one end of it. Your putting in a new oil pump I assume. If the engine is apart anyhow I would highly recommend it. You shouldn't have to buy a gear because the gear is part of the distributor. Any double roller timing chain will work fine. I wouldn't go with a timing gear unless you like the noise.
