I have had too many problems with my last 2 engines over the last year or so. Instead of buying one built and keeping my fingers crossed, I'm gonna just going to build it myself. Hope I do it right and still keep my fingers crossed LOL!
Anyways, I need some advice on choosing a cam. I'm purchasing an engine kit and these are the available upgrade cams. I just used summit so we can all compare: http://www.summitracing.com/compare.aspx
I love the sound of the thumpr cams but looking for one thats overall decent for performance. Not over the top performance, just a nice addition.
I'm purchasing these heads: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-151124/

I can't help much with a cam choice, but with some more info, others can help.
Engine, rear gears (if known), 2wd or 4, what are you looking for? Cruiser, work truck, strip duties?
I could recommend the cam in my plow truck, but odds are it's not what your looking for.

Other than being a small block chevy we'll need more info! Is it a roller block you're using?
-
Sorry I was away for the weekend guys! Not a roller block, and has the stock rear. Trucks a cruiser mainly. Take it out couple times a week. Not really a daily driver.
Only comp cams were available and at $80 dollars extra not bad of a deal.
comp dual energy cl 12-207-2
two different comp xtreme cl 12-238-2 & cl 12-242-2
then the thumpr series cams: thumpr 12-600-4 and the mutha thumpr 12-601-4

why not Lunati 60102LK - Lunati Voodoo Cam and Lifter Kits it work great. what will be your power band, how much lift and duration do u want? how much power are u trying to build? how much compression do u have?
-
How about a custom grind. I have ran Many camshafts from Chris Nelson Cams. http://www.nielsoncams.com/ Shoot him out an Email and ask for him to send you a build sheet, Let him know about all the details.. Gear Ratio, Trans type, Tire size, Fuel Octane.. Pretty much anything you know about your Engine build. He had built a pretty wicked one for me when I ran an Alcohol Injected 327.

Maybe you can look into the 7-2 swap cam. It swaps the lobe positions for cylinders 7 and 2 and its supposed to boost horse power by like 40. You have to swap the plug positions too.
-
I think you mean 4/7 cam.
-
Is it 4/7? I only overheard a little bit of a conversation, so I wasnt sure.
