Title: Hi temp paint
Post by: Bitzer! on March 02, 2011, 04:25:02 pm

Hi guys,

I've taken the plunge and ordered new headers but they are just plain steel with black paint which will no doubt burn off.

Is there a paint available that won't burn off?

cheers

Andy

Find someone local who does thermal barrier coatings or high temp coatings. Anything you buy out of a can no matter how you cure it will burn off and be a waste of your time. You're typically better off buying them already coated.

if theyre already coated then no matter what you put on it'll flake off. however i have had good luck with unfinished pipes using BARBEQUE paint haha.

vht paint wont burn off had them for 6 years and still looks good. i bought ceramic coated headers for my 99 silvy 2 years later they rusted bad was mad because i spent all that money and they still didnt last. so if the painted one burn off atleast you didnt spend hundreds.

The VHT works pretty well if you have acess to an oven to bake the parts in, then its beefy stuff.

No matter what coating you choose, just don't bang them or chip them while putting them in, once chipped or cracked no matter what is on there water will get under the coating and work along the header and make more come off and rust.  Good luck in your choice.
