Title: Need help identifying truck.
Post by: zslates on March 03, 2011, 08:42:23 pm
I'm trying to id my 77 truck.  I was thinking it was a heavy half but not sure now. I'm also thinking that it doesn't have smog equip because it's over 6000. Thought?

- k10
- 6200 gvwr
- no f44 option
- 6 leafs in rear
- 4th digit in vin is 1
- no smog equipment and it doesn't look as though it ever had any.
- it's a ca truck out of freemont.
- vin Ckl147z126356
- Gawr front/rear 3520

If the 4th digit would have been a 4, it would have been a heavy half but being a 1 it is just considered a 1/2 ton

Its supposed to have cats on it, maybe an egr. It should at the very least have a charcoal cannister on it. Is Paradise in Tehema county? I really can't remember if they are a no smog county or not.

If it is the gvwr rating you may have been high enough for no cats.  Does the fuel gauge mention unleaded fuel only?  I had a 1978 F150 that didn't have cats.

I don't believe I've seen the unleaded fuel only sticker, but will have to check

c=chevy, k=4x4, L=350 v8 4 barrel, 1=1/2 ton, 4=cab +pickup box, 7= 1977, z= assembly plant (Fort Wayne, Indiana/ Fremont, California/ or Spring Hill, Tennessee, unfortually it doestn't tell you which one), 126356= serial number.  If it was made in the Fremont plant for California it should have had smog epuipment on it, more than likely it was made at one of the other plants and brought to California.

In my link Z is Fremont for the plant.

There's no unleaded fuel only sign on the fuel gauge, it just says fuel.

Since its 6200 GVWR it must have not had the smog equipment (even thought its a CA truck) and it's not a Big 10 (F44) option.... so maybe all k10's around this year we're over 6000 GVWR.

Anyone else have a k10 CA truck around this year that's under 6000 gvwr?
