So I got my 86 the other day and none of the speakers work, so I figure I might as well throw in whatever I have laying around here.
I have a cd player that I want to put in, except I was going to buy an adapter so I dont have to cut any wires, but...
there is no plug on the back of the radio. and theres a ton of wires, with a bunch of electrical tape.
Ive never replaced a radio in a chevy, so I have no idea what im doing. Ill post a pic of it tomorrow, hopefully someone can help.
Does anyone know the color codes for the wires?

Color code is usually printed on the bottom of the deck. If not you will need to contact the manufacturer and get the code from them. Different brands use different colors. As far as any speakers in the truck, you may just have to trace the wires to each speaker.

darn. well thanks anyways.

I've wired up a ton of stereo's, it's not that hard. Figure out what wires are power (Usually red/yellow) then ground (almost always solid black). If you can get those hooked up and get it to turn on that is half the battle. As far as figuring out what wires go to what speaker, here is my formula. Each speaker will have two wires, one solid, one with a stripe. Such a "grey"/"grey with black stripe"~"White"/"white with black stripe" etc... Solid is +, Stripe is -. To figure out what goes to where is time consuming, but easy. Match up your four sets of speaker outputs and your half way there. First set the stereo to left front only and connect the wires from the speaker to each set off the back of the radio until you get sound. Then mark them so you will remember. Then just do the rest of the speakers in order the same way. Right front, left rear, right rear. :D
Make sense?

What radio do you have? most of the time you can download the manuals in .PDF form from the manufacturers website.

A quick easy way to figure out which wires go to which speaker is to use a 9 volt battery! Briefly touch the wires to the battery and the speaker ( if still good) will make a sound! I help a friend of mine at a car audio shop all the time and that's a shortcut I learned from them!

all of the speakers are bad. lol. its a Dual cd player, i guess ill just follow the wires for the speakers. i know all of the wires for the radio, just not the truck. but some of the wires do have labels on them, so that does help a little. thanks for the help
