Title: Rebuilt carb. still not staying running
Post by: Snowdrift78 on March 13, 2011, 09:10:59 pm
I have a 1978 Chevy C10 Shortbed with the 250 i6 motor. 1bbl carb.
I recently rebuilt my carburetor, and i put it back on my truck.
I tried startin her up, but it wouldn't go. So I put a little bit of gas down the carb, and it started up. ran for about 2-3 secs and then died again.
I pulled the fuel line into the carb, and checked it and it's pushin out fuel, but for some reason it's not making it into the motor or something.
It was having the same problem before rebuilding the carb, where gas was going to the carb, but never made it into the engine i guess cause it just wont stay running. Only difference is that before having the carb rebuilt it would just leak out the gas pretty bad.
i am pretty stumped as to why i can't seem to get this thing to stay running and any help would be appreciated.

What's the float adjustment look like?

>_< I'm not really sure.
My friend suggested a guy that rebuilds carbs. (did 3 of them for my friend, all fine without any problems) so i went to him and had it rebuilt.
How would i check the float without tearing it apart?

get some instructions, a pdf file or look in your manual(get a manual) for an exploded diagram view of your carb. if youre neat and careful, you should be able to just unscrew it and pay attention to any springs or small metal arm positions. i imagine a 1 barrel has to be really easy.

i had never rebuilt a rochester quadrajet and i redid it in an afternoon.
