Title: weird starting problem.
Post by: audrima on March 15, 2011, 04:02:16 am
hey! on my 78 c25 2wd 4 speed. with new batt. I notice today when driving home the volt gage only read barly above the red.  when I got to my apartment and turned my lights off it went to 13v I had to jump it at my parents house to get her to start and now she is died at my apartment.

what can be the problem, the only thing we did is replaced a headlight plug. but it checks out correct form what I can see.

Thanks
Mariah

Get your alt. tested. It can be on or off the truck or the old way is to get the truck started and remove the ground cable on the battery. The truck should keep running due to the alt. If the alt is bad the truck will die. Even if it does die still test it just to make sure

mine did that before, found out my positive battery cable going to the starter must've lost some of it's rubber insulation rubbed off.  It was a short and the posi cable rubbed on the frame and completely burned through...glad it wasn't a fire.

update: so like we jump started the truck then we took the batt out. reved the engine and it died, so alt? @.@

I should have died as soon as you removed the battery cable. so like ;D take take the alt to the parts store see what the tester says. But since your saying it dies once you revved the engine you should inspect all vacuum lines. Can’t remember if you said you replaced plugs or wires but make sure no mouse has chewed the plug wires up and replace the fuel filter. Maybe you also should clean out the carb but just check the other things first sound like she just needs to be tuned in first
