hey guys , just looking for some answers , I have an 1984 C10 with a 3.08 open diff and I have a 83 posi rear end out of a 4wd with the 6 lug axles, I was wondering if I were to swap could I simply just swap the 83 posi diff into the 84 housing with the original axles. my father seems to believe that the posi would not fit in the open diff housing???. So if someone could give me a heads up it would be great thanks!

I am going to assume that they are both ten bolts by the years? I am also going to assume that they are not the same gear ratio or you would just swap the whole rearend? The carrier should fit if they are both ten bolts, or both 12 bolts for that matter. The axles will also fit as long as they are both the same rearend. You will need to get at the minimum a new crush collar, side shims, pinion, and wheel / axle seals. A gear installation kit would be the best way to get all you need to install gears and set them up. You will need a dial indicator, and either a bolt on or magnetic mount for it. Once the carrier is installed with the 3:08 ring gear, and pinion you can set the back lash between the gears.
