Title: Expect to pay more for transmission rebuild with mods included?
Post by: chevymotocross on March 17, 2011, 05:03:55 pm
My 700r4 is in need of a rebuild. It slips between 2nd and 3rd. I'm going to start getting price quotes from the local shops. I was hoping to spend no more than $1000 to rebuild. I don't want a completely stock rebuild though. Think these shops will try to up the cost considerably to install a Transgo shift kit and corvette servo? I'm even willing to buy the parts. I actually installed a corvette servo already in this truck and it helped considerably. I wonder if they can just re-use that one? Either way i think it was cheap, like $15 on ebay.

Otherwise, I'm thinking going the Monster transmission route which will keep me right at the $1000 rage with the vette servo, mild shift kit, and I guess heavier duty clutches/bands already installed.

Opinions?

Ask at your local NAPA and O'reilys for someone who does it on the side.  That's how I got mine rebuilt.  He charged me $400 for a stock rebuild and he supplied the parts.  I will be going back to him for a performance rebuild of another tranny, but I will be supplying the parts.

Use the upgraded sunshell, get the trans go 700R4 kit, the servo kit can be reused and the master overhaul kit will come with the necessary seals to reuse it, get a new band and the rest will be determined once you open it up. If you can't find a decent local builder let me know. I'm not that far from you.
