In New Hampshire this is a good place. You have to be a dealer but the prices are lower than a public auction. I visit this one with buddy often.
Auto Auction of New England.  http://www.aane.com/index.htm (http://www.aane.com/index.htm)

In Cal. when I am searching for a used car, it's auctions, wrecking yards sometimes have cars they have fixed up or just had to replace a door.  Pick-n-pull sells used vehicles here.  Local paper has a section dedicated to used cars, and the afford mentioned autotrader.com.

I'd check out the auctions as well, thats where I got my late 96 Yukon.

I also periodically check the classifieds in the news paper, there are still elderly folk that want nothin to do with the internet.
