Very nice job on your truck.  Props on your hood, and the fender flares look good on your truck, though I would have cut out the fronts for your running lights.  It is going to be a great truck when your done.  Your not planning on mudding it after all that work like your other rig are you ?

No mudding in this thing.....well not at first. I'm sure the mud will get the best of me one day and i'll stick it in the hole!!!  ;D and as far as the marker lights.....there is a indentation for the lights in the front.....that's how they come and i'm not going to spend 300 bucks on them and hack em up. I agree though would look good if you could see the whole light.

Thats gonna be my next build project after my 78 2wd and both my blazers get done. Is a mid 70s 4wd shortbed on 40s and 20s or 22s. Show truck/ dd. Im in the process of building my 95 4wd 4 door s10 blazer up right now, im gonna put a 6.0 408 stroker in it and straight axle swap it on 35s and 20s.

Nice truck. I hope all my stuff turns out as good as yours. Ill be subscribing to your thread as i may need some ideas on my 78 as im putting a 6.0 408 stroker into it as well

Got most every thing outside cab wired up, looks good the way my buddy did the wiring. I was able to hide everything very well computer sits behind the dash. you can only see like 3 wires. I still need to wire up the truck power and some other things under hood but should be done this weekend with that. Brakes are mostly done, ordered my rear rubber line...when that's in it's done. gotta pop the water pump back off and get the new pully pressed in too. Anyway off to bed ....enjoy!

Title: Re: My 83' frame off resto with 5.3
Post by: daytonagp4 on April 10, 2011, 01:31:02 pm
It's a 5.3 and it wasn't hard so far....do a search and there will be plenty that show up showing step by step how to do it and all the parts you will need to get it done. Wiring is moderatly hard but if you take your time it can be done. Just do your research before you jump right it.

if it was me, id get an ls6 intake. easily bolt on more horsepower. thats what i have planned for my 01 5.3.
not to mention it just looks bad when you pop the hood. lol
and if you want more, fuel rails and injectors from an ls6.
Title: Re: My 83' frame off resto with 5.3
Post by: slammed79 on May 04, 2011, 11:59:17 pm
Also a ls6 cam is supposed to be good for another 100hp in the 5.3, not sure if this was mentioned or done to the rig already, but I'm tired and getting ready for bed :p
Title: Re: My 83' frame off resto with 5.3
Post by: roadrage41 on May 05, 2011, 05:23:57 am
Closer to 25 horse on the ls6 cam, ls6 intake or car intake in general means swapping accessories. If you swap to an 07 and up truck intake you'll be at the same power gains as an ls6, but you'll need an aftermarket cable throttle body. At that price point you're not that far off from an aftermarket or ported stock intake.
Title: Re: My 83' frame off resto with 5.3
Post by: daytonagp4 on May 05, 2011, 06:59:26 pm
Agreed ^^^^^ I would rather have the torque from the truck intake...i do agree with the bad factor but my pocket book is so thin i can see right through it at this point. The plan is get the truck done drive it this summer enjoy it and come winter time it's getting an aftermarket power adder.....super or turbo not sure yet. Plan is to have around 475hp at the crank so not to hard to accomplish. Thanks for the input guys!

Post by: roadrage41 on May 06, 2011, 07:47:04 am
you got someone that can tune this thing for you?

anyway just watch ls1techs classifieds and pick stuff up used. ebay is garbage for getting deals any more. look for a 98 ls1 cam or an 02-04 (ls6) z06 cam and some ls6 springs. the stock 5.3 cam is good for a stock 5.3, bout it.

get a manifold, a turbo, upgrade your fuel system, fab some pipes, switch to speed density, have fun.

with a cam swap, a magnacharger would get you pretty close to those numbers, and they're pretty much all inclusive. cool in their own right.

Post by: slammed79 on May 06, 2011, 08:47:40 pm
Closer to 25 horse on the ls6 cam,

I read in CarCraft and a couple articles in Hotrod Magazine that they took a LS6 cam and valve springs and picked up 100hp on the engine dyno.

Though even 25hp out a different stock cam that can be had on ebay for next to nothin is still a good bump.

I'm not sure exactly how it happened but it was in the front left side....it was bent up so i think it was a "jump went wrong" kinda thing. That's not the only reason i scrapped the first frame though, it was cracked in a few places and it just looked like :(. I wanted to start with something that wasn't molested.
Quote
Ever consider putting in a D60 front
I have indeed but this thing won't see any hard wheeling for a long time so not really a need for it. Also the deal i got for the axles front rear, tires and rims for 1000 bucks I didn't wanna spend anymore money if i didn't have too.

Progress report for the day: All gauges in and working porperly (after an 2 hrs dicking with the fuel gauge turns out one of the stud terminals on the back of the gauge was missing a nut  ::) ) the shocks are on and done, the brakes are done other than bleeding, bed went to painter today!!! Basically all i need to do is mount the cooling system which is easy it came out of a 02 so all i need to do is make a couple brackets and it's good, put a driveshaft in and exhaust and sh'es drivable!!!!!
Thanks for all the support guys, It helps!!!

I think in the first one you are hearing my alternator going out, cuz it was bad the whole time and i think it was making some noise. The second on you are hearing my exhaust leak i think. I have been driving the truck and everything seems to be okay. So not sure.

Are you going to move your air filter eventually? It doesnt hit the fan?

Why not run dual exhaust with a crossover?

You, my friend have done to your truck, what I would do to a vehicle in a resto too!! The 5.3L, well the LS engines are an amazing piece of engineering, and I applaud you for it.

Did you get a wiring harness from painless wiring??

Excellent work.

Will

Haha thanks man, It's been a long road but i'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I still have A LOT of work to do but IMO it will never be "done". I see some of the awesome interiors on here and i drool over them. I need to find somebody who can help me with mine and not charge me a crapload of money for it. I would do the 99% of the work if someone showed me.
Anyway I did almost all the wiring .....my buddy who does LS swaps in Rx7's did the main engine harness and all the tuning, relay's, and other odds and ends. All the truck wiring is all me. Just took my time and did it right. Thanks for the compliments
